Maverick Wrote:Because they don't cut? So you mean all this time I've been watching the cut version of Bubblegum Crisis, Macross, Last Exile, Kare Kano, Samurai Champloo, etc, etc, etc...
Sorry Mav but what you said makes no sense XD Sure a show like One Piece is cut up and raped by the evil people of 4Kids, but I was asking in a general sense, not just for One Piece.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
You might as well just buy the original Japanese DVD releases then if you can't stand the fansubs, after all you resorted to that after 4kids decided to butcher One Piece. Deal with it, at least you have the resources to watch it uncut now.
Or better yet to save all this hassle, learn the Japanese language and watch it in raw without the subtitles lol.
I'm sorry darky, I promise not to watch any more fansubs from now on. I am such an evil person for doing so, I really should BUY the Japanese DVD releases like everyone else. Cause really, NO ONE watches fansubs, they're all committed to buying the Japanese release. They would NEVER watch a fansub because they would all rather PAY for their anime...
...what have I warped into the twilight zone here?! O.O
Darky, when you said any of that, did you actually read what I said? I was bitching about the people who have been telling me that fansubs are superior.
Yeah 4Kids butchered One Piece, no the fansubs are fine, it's just the fact that I found it hard to believe that people say that they're superior with all the inconsistancies they have. Yup, I resorted to fansubs, but don't you too? So darky, I know that you've downloaded a lot of animes that haven't been released outside of Japan... have you BOUGHT the Japanese DVD release of all of those animes?
But yeah, I should've made myself clearer about what I was bitching about exactly. Though, I thought you and I had already gotten passed this stupid crap long ago.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
lynk Wrote:I'm starting to realise how much fansubs suck.
Your previous post seemed to be bitching more about fansubs than people who see it as superior than local DVD releases.
Do I resort to fansubs? Hmmm well I download fansubs to check on the latest series and try to enjoy it. If I like it a lot and it gets licensed then I go out and buy the series, like I did with Midori no Hibi, FMP Fumoffu and Tsukihime. If I don't like it then it gets deleted (FMP Second Raid and Bleach is an example). Most of the other animes that I bought were from renting it, seeing it on a sampler disc or borrowing it from my anime club.
For the ones that never gets licensed...at least I don't resort to the huge amount of bootlegs available in those anime stores. I never said everyone buys the original Japanese DVD releases (or me as well since you asked) nor were they committed to it. It's the same thing with those anime mp3's you get people to send you. You don't see many people who download animes buy the original Japanese cd releases (nor do you right?). That is unless you go to an anime convention where you could at least look to see if they have the cd you want.
What I was saying was that you should've just got that (or at least a raw) if you couldn't stand the translation and annoyance those side notes were giving. You said the fansubs were fine but it seemed like you were complaining about it moreso than those sub-only fans and trying to bring it down.
lynk Wrote:Why were all those people telling me that fansubs are better? Why? Cause it's free?
Well you are getting One Piece uncut for free. No one forced you to resort to this (well maybe 4kids XD). The fansubbers are providing you the version you want to see but it looked like you were still complaining about it, if it didn't have subtitles I doubt the episode will be easy to understand.
lynk Wrote:for the most part they're doing a good job translating and all but there's just way too many inconsistancies in their work.
What looks like an inconsistancy to you may not be to others, after all it's done to LOTS of other fansubs as well and I haven't seen many complain about it.
lynk Wrote:So darky, I know that you've downloaded a lot of animes that haven't been released outside of Japan... have you BOUGHT the Japanese DVD release of all of those animes?
I remember only 2 and that doesn't look a lot does it? Sailor Stars series which I chose to delete a long time ago due to it taking up a lot of hd space and I was beginning to lose interest in it.
The other is Mizuiro OVA 2003 (2 eps only) which is a remake of the original Mizuiro hentai where the 2003 version completely removed that element to a story about childhood friends and promises. So far when I search up for the DVD of the 2003 version, the hentai original always come up. If I do find it on YJA then yes I probably will be buying it.
What I just wanted to say was that if you can't stand the subs, don't bother downloading it. To be honest, I kinda felt you really hated fansubs but meh I guess it's probably a misreading of your post.
lynk Wrote:I thought you and I had already gotten passed this stupid crap long ago.
We did. I just found it ironic from your post that appeared to be bitching about fansubs yet you were downloading it.
You didn't have to type all of that up since we've already been through that ages ago on msn.
But I already said...
Quote:But yeah, I should've made myself clearer about what I was bitching about exactly
...I realised that I should've been clearer. Plus I don't hate fansubs or fansubbers, I mean I've already told you that I know how much effort goes into making them and that we came to an understanding that not all animes make an appearance outside of Japan and all that. What pisses me of are people who say fansubs are superior simply because they're free, but try to hide it by saying that it's just translated better or some crap like that.
I completely agree with you remember, in fact I've said exactly what you have said. If you don't like it (I was referring to the western DVD release though), then quit bitching, learn Japanese and buy the Japanese release. LOL
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Lynk Former Wrote:If you don't like it (I was referring to the western DVD release though), then quit bitching, learn Japanese and buy the Japanese release. LOL
That reminds me of a time in an anime IRC channel when some idiot was bitching about Evangelion's western DVD release complaining about the english audio track. Told that person to sit down and shut up, turn on the subtitles and switch to the Japanese audio track for fuck's sake lol, it wasn't like the western release had taken out the Japanese track since that option was available.
That person said they couldn't and I found out they had downloaded the fansub instead. Definitely no right to be complaining about it in the first place.
XD lol, I'm still trying to figure out why people bitch about the English dubs anymore in the first place, I mean jeebus, this is the age of DVDs, not VHS... a lot of the complaints you hear are outdated by about a decade or so.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
I agree.
I obviously have no problem with dubs <3
^_^
@Lynk
I was just subtlety pointing out that you sounded unfair with the fansub :P looks like everything is sorted out now
I watch fansubs with embedded subtitles, so no explanations all over the screen on my case XP

Hey compared to standard Anime the only other anime I've seen with more Fan service was colourful.....
I am a Member, Not a Number!!!
I'm a cheapskate I don't mind the wrongly subbed pieces really,
been watching so much anime in japanese most of the time I know what they say lol
@ Mav: Yup, when it's a fansub, anything negative is unfair, when it's a dub, it's the truth. At least that's how the tides flow when it comes to anime. I know that for a fact and I don't mind either way. I'll still say what I want.
@ Sadi: I know what you mean, just cause I watch dubs doesn't mean I don't watch the Japanese version too. I mean like I said before, this is the era of DVDs, I get to have the choise of watching BOTH version and getting my moneys worth out of all the animes I have bought. So after watching so many animes in Japanese with subtitles you begin to pick up the language, though of course it's a kind of "assisted" learning in that we still can't speak the language, only that we can recognise what's being said cause we've heard it before lol.
EDIT: XD Man, you know what I really love about One Piece? It has the same spirit that The Legend of Zelda has.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
hey, don't mix me with the fansub lover crowd, I don't care about dubs or subs.
Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
I never mixed you up with anyone, I was just stating what the general vibe is when it comes to anime.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
subs dubs whatever.
I like them both if done right.
it's different from anime to anime ^^
Thats the whole point, for example I came across a dub were the British Royal Navy is refered to the English Navy, Stupid dubbers..... there always something so stupid they screw up on...

I've been watching some Reroni Kenshin, Samurai X, Samurai Champloo, FMA, and a little bit of One Peice and Naruto. I'm too poor to get my hands on anything besides whats on tv and what my friends here have
finished hare + guu final, and started watching the tenchi muyo ova's aswell as contimuing with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Blah blah, I love both dubs and subs. Sometimes I want to watch something without reading littlewords (which has been remedied some in the newer fansubs floating around) and sometimes I like tuning into a series that isn't dubbed yet.
Lately I've been watching Nanaka 6/17 and Midori Days. Nanaka's just so cute! Raging 17 year old hormones controlled by a six year old! YES! WHAT I FEEL LIKE WHEN I GET "THE ITCH" (note: refer to the bgc fanfic classic Tokemi Illusions for reference of "the itch") And what could be more off the wall then a girl's body attached to a highschool students hand?
Cureently been watching School Rumble, Samurai Champloo, Ouran High School Host Club.
Finally back on track with...The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Bleach.
Fan subbed one Piece, and Azumanga (man that show is weird).

Finished up School Rumble just over a week ago and started up School Rumble: Second Semester. I love this series xP
Also, Monthly fansubbing of Noein. Almost finished up with Fate/Stay Night, only one week left ;_;.
I might start up another 2 anime series, but I'm deciding which one's xD.
ok, starded watching Ai Yori Aoshi , and R.O.D the TV (i only have the first volume )
ROD I'm waiting for the last two vols from the Rental place, GOD DAMN IT!!!

I'm still addicted to Azumanga Daioh and Samurai Champloo. Really fun stuff.
Finished watching BGC 2040 again but this time the EA 5.1 dub version. Started watching the original BGC right after finishing that. Up to episode 5 right now. Going to start watching Zone of the Enders (movie and full series) after BGC.

watching Mezzo DSA. i was watching nanaka 6/17 but i got bored with it.
reading Gunsmith Cats
so...many...girls...with...guns!
actully, the Gunsmith Cats manga sparked a slight interest in guns/ammo with me.
i went down to my local ammunition dealer and grabbed a whole bunch of flyers for Winchester Ammunition after reading it lol
*EDIT* just watched pokemon season 1, episode 38: Computer Soldier Porygon, y'know the one that sent all those people into seizures. all i experienced was a VERY mild headache.
I think the last anime i watched was The End of Evangelion or Rurouni Kenshin: Ishin Shishi no Requiem. Im currently watching no anime but i want the borrow BGC: 2040 from my friend because i suddenly became attracted to it and i never realy liked it that much before plus i havnt seen all the episodes.
@Seph Rurouni Kenshin is Samurai X.
@Tai Yeah i know that one XD What about the episode where James uses fake boobs to enter a beauty contest and the one that was banned after 7/11 because it was called Tower of Terror XD
lol 7/11...
You've read it! You can't unread it!
I watched the 14 episodes of The Melancholi of Haruhi that's the longest i've sat to watch anime (Sitting at computer for 7 hours kind of hurts my back)
Watching some hellsing when I can.
Watching the first episode of the Hellsing Ultimate OVA. so far, it's pretty much like the original only with awesomer animation. I hope they do fix the plot holes of the first series.
Gigantic Unilateral Numerous Dominating Ammuntion Fortress
"Transhumanism is about how technology will solve the problems inherent in the human condition. Cyberpunk is about how it won't."
little old OVA ah my Goddess...

Currently watching Serial Experiments Lain. I finally picked this one up (and for only $25, score!). I only watched the first episode so far and it's interesting at least, especially the animation itself. It has a very unique art stye. I hope this is at least on par with Boogiepop Phantom and Paranoia Agent, as I loved both of those.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I picked up Riding Bean for cheap at the same time. It was great, I'm always up for some sweet Kenichi Sonoda characters. It also made me realize that the only time someone walks in the room while I'm watching anime is when a character is nude or doing something really weird.
Thanks for reminding me about Lain i want to see that sounds a bit interesting from what i heard.
I've been watching a shit ton of Space Battleship Yamato and Star Blazers...i'm on the third tv series now. I had no clue there was so goddamn much SBY stuff.
I've also been seriously enjoying Ouran High School Host Club, and I was blown away by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
And then there's my recent Elfen Lied obsession...
Just Finished watching GITS 2nd GIG volume 4, and it was great ^^
Finished watching Gantz, Madlax and Bakuretsu Tenshi awhile ago and started Mai-HiME.
