Hey guys what's up? I recently got my BGC Tokyo 2040 box set in the mail and I'm a little suspicious.
First off, the box set is sleeved in a clear plastic case and each DVD ( four in total) rest inside a booklet-like thing that folds out. ( for a better idea, think Alien Quadrilogy (sp?).) Not only that, there is both English and Japanese summaries on the back ( as well as the DVDs).
After viewing the first episode, it turns out that the English subtitles show up peridoicly ( not that I care, I likes me dubs. The floor is now open to calling me a heathen and blasphemer).
Anyway, I hope you guys can help me with this.
Yes my friend i am afraid you have purchased a bootleg set, i have done the same on several occassions, the set is most likely an Asian bootleg from the hong kong area, they do appear all over the place and even on websites with good reputation get pulled into selling them.
Heh, lesson learned then. Thanks man. At least this will tide me over until I can get the Perfect Collection.

Ah dont worry duder the stuff happens ^^
indeed. i learned that lession trying to buy box sets of kenshin.
lession learned from me too. but i'm way above that. and threw those out.
i shall not watch bootleg dvd's.
....downloading them however....
anywho, we all get sucked into one of those once or even a few times. try and get it from a BIG site like funimation/amazon/(er...)or something
try and skip the ebay like places.
and welcome to the forums
Thanks. I was expecting to get flamed severely. Anyway, After using some Google Fu, I am finding places ( like Amazon and various other site like it) that they have the Perfect Collection listed, but out of stock. Heck, even Animenation doesn't have it. Am I going nuts and that the Perfect Collection never really existed ( as part of an elaborate hallucination brought on my communists and cheese) or is it something else?

Keep in mind that if you buy a series (usually a 24-26 ep series) that comes in a clear slip case with a sort of fold-out case, 99% of the times it's always a bootleg. Like Scar said, avoid places like ebay as they're littered with bootlegs when it comes to anime, only try to get it from there if the seller has a photo of the actual genuine DVD's.
Also, was just wondering if you're from the US? If you don't mind importing the R4 (Australian) Madman version, then you could try ordering it from them though the cover art for the box is completely different and you'd probably need your DVD player to be multi-zone or region free.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I live in Canada and the only method of pay online is Paypal. PLus my ps2 serves as my only means of DVD playing. I may have to bite the bullet and just order teh individual DVDs.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Nex's payment option is only by Paypal, which Amazon doesn't accept. A money order or Visa debit card could be an option.

Evangelion Platinum comes in a fold out case thing =P
I got stung like that on Ebay too. The DVD I bought had the options for subs, but no subs available, only the dub. I was annoyed, but ya live and learn, just avoid eBAY for DVD's
They're not remasters, just rerelease in a special set with extras and stuff. Best part about em are the commentaries though, otherwise there's no reason to get em if you already have the older release.

Okay ladies and gents, it seems that I have hit paydirt:
http://www.thisisanime.com/shop/shop_goo...Collection
However, I'm a bit suspicious of that site. Anybody have any info on it? This, also puts me in a dilemma: I could either buy this, or get the Anime Essential DVDs. How much of a difference is there between them> ( other than price)
Yeah, that does look like the official ADV Perfect Collection release... but yeah, I don't know the site...

Or avoid the local China Town flea market. it looks lieka big bargain to get everything in one disc, but its ussualy a really bad rip off.
best thing to do is study the photos if it looks to good to be true.

I'd be wary, even the review sounds odd. Get the DVD from a well known and established site. You may pay more but at least you'll know your getting the real deal
Black Howling Wrote:Why Amazon.com though :P
In my experience, Amazon.com is usually the best place to buy...just about anything.
