Review

"Hemisphere" is the opening theme to the musically driven series RahXephon. Sung by the wonderful Maaya Sakamoto (who also voices Reika Mishima) this song greatly reflects the overall tone of the series. Music producer Yoko Kanno incorporates the elements of violins, guitar and rapid drumbeats to lend a sense of adrenaline to the overall song, particularly during the choruses and near the climax. The lyrics deal with soul searching and finding solace and comfort in finding more about yourself, just like "I want to know more about myself" (the closing words of Hemisphere).

Maaya Sakamoto does an exceptional job of singing; her angelic voice flows with the music easily, even during the fast paced choruses. There is no doubt that fans of RahXephon will recognise Hemisphere as a highlight of the series and they have a good reason to. This magnificent music piece definitely deserves to be heard with or without the series.

Besides Hemisphere, the single also contains 2 other songs including Ongaku (Music), which is another brilliant track but a little under par to the title track, and the instrumental track of Hemisphere.
