Review

KOTOKO and Hiromi Sato return on a "Second Flight" to sing the opening theme of Onegai Twins, the sequel/spin-off of Onegai Teacher. Having previously recorded the effervescent "Shooting Star" for Onegai Teacher, it would only make sense that the same sense of style and panache are incorporated into the music of Onegai Twins.

The runtimes of both themes are surprisingly lengthy, as "Second Flight" runs for a total of 5 minutes and 42 seconds while "Asu he no Namida" clocks in at a staggering 6 minutes and 28 seconds. Don't let the track times turn you away, though. These two songs are worth listening to and are far superior to their predecessors from Onegai Teacher. "Second Flight" is an upbeat dance track that utilises many swift electronic sounds and beats, exemplifying the playfulness of the series. Although there is really nothing outstanding about the vocals by KOTOKO, it is pleasant enough to listen to, but can be quite irritating at times.

"Asu he no Namida", on the other hand, truly shines, as it sets into a dreamy music trance from the very beginning with the keyboards to the mature sounding voice of Kawada Mami. What is even more impressive is the use of electric guitars during the bridge carrying the song through, before ending with a magical feeling from the keyboards again. It may be a long track, but once you're drawn into the melody, the length is barely noticeable.

In addition to these two tracks, the off-vocal versions are included on the single. These karaoke-style versions provide a little more insight to the background music of the songs removing the main layer of vocals but leaves in the backing vocals.

There's no denying that the music from Onegai Twins is a major improvement from Onegai Teacher. It is intriguing that the ending theme outshines its opening counterpart on the single making this CD worth the money simply for "Asu he no Namida."
