Review

There's no doubt the music and background pieces of Chobits are a popular feature with the fans. This character song collection is an album that showcases 7 tracks sung by the Japanese vocal cast accompanied with 6 instrumental pieces, most of which have been featured in the anime series.

The opening song "I Hear You Everywhere" is a soft bouncy track that has been played in a number of scenes from the series. Being one of the most popular featured tracks from the anime, Rie Tanaka pulls through this song satisfyingly and, while her vocals may not be the strongest, she does exceptionally well without sounding too husky throughout the track. The next vocal track is performed by Tomokazu Sugita with "Sing A Song". Produced by ROUND TABLE (who also did the opening theme "Let Me Be With You") this track shares similar music traits to "Let Me Be With You" which is not surprising given the majority of music produced by them are dance tracks.

The real highlight of this album arrives with the third vocal track called "Beyond". Sung by Houko Kuwashima and Fumiko Orikasa this track uses a lot of electronic beats and synthesizers while also adding in piano melodies, impressively bringing out its full effect. Surprisingly, both of the voice actresses harmonise perfectly together during the choruses while the verses are shared between them. The album even takes it to a humorous side with the duet between Tomokazu Seki and Motoko Kumai, "Groove*Master". The enthusiastic and child-like voice from Motoko enhances the fun and exciting elements of the album that you'll end up singing along to "kore kara, mada mada..." simply because it's such a hilarious song.

Aside from the vocal tracks, many of the instrumental music tracks are also worthy of listening to. The majority of these evoke a range of emotions and feelings when listening to them, from the sorrowful "In Undertones" to the mysterious "Mix-Zone" to the humorous "Storm In A Teacup" and even up to the erotic "A Wild Fancy". This is definitely one album that fans of Chobits should own.
