(Elfen Lied - sp-1) I'm not concerned about myself, but my daughter has informed me that she youtube'd the entire series. I don't know whether to freak out, take away her computer until she's 18 or just roll with it. (Lets just say that she's not even a teenager yet and leave it at that)

So, should I be worried? Is it bad enough that I need to go rent it to figure out what she's watched? Or is it not that big of a deal?

Any help would be much appreciated...

well the elfen lied ive seen is the one ADV sells here in australia, and not to alarm you or anything i think its fairly graphic, i mean its not the "kill bill effect" but its not awkward for people in the series to spontaneously explode/tear-apart while in the presence of several of the main characters or sub characters.

but im not sure what most people would call graphic so i would suggest seeing it yourself before panicking about the show.

From what I've seen its pretty graphic. From the first episode alone I saw an office ladies head rotated 180 degrees and numerous other decapitations and dismemberments. I'd sit down and ask her what she thinks of the show and work from there. Explain that gore is not always entertaining... blah blah blah. I'm not a parent but I did raise my little brother. You seem wise enough to be able to figure it out on your own Analog. I'm not saying that to be sarcastic or a smart ass or whatever, I mean it.

Down here in Australia it was given a classification of MA15+ for Strong Animated Violence and Strong Themes... few animes get this rating because of the fact that they're animated...

well, i say, if she's not scared for life with it, just tell her to not to do something like that again w/o letting you know. (or just block youtube.com)

I can tell you now that some things in Elfen Lied will confuse her in a very wrong way. It's not just the violence (graphic and psychological) and nudity that does it, it's the entire premise and themes of the show... in other words, it's another mindfuck anime.

But it gets worse actually... *cuts and paste from wiki article*

Well, I did talk to her about it, but she doesn't seem to be too bothered by what she watched. She is more disturbed by National Geographic specials that she knows are *real* versus anime which she knows is not. Might also have to do with the fact that she's an artist and sees the anime for what it really is... an artform.

At least that's what I'm hoping though. But youtube is the least of my problems. I think she's on the verge of figuring out how to download torrents... :OMG:

I'm sure it's not that bad, after all it's been released in the US and Australia with no problems. It only got an MA15+ rating down here when it could've gotten an R18+ if it was really THAT bad.

eh I probably will end up watching it, I forgot but i think its only rated a 15 here in the UK so if it doesnt have the highest rating which is 18 it cant be that bad

Ninja Scroll was also edited in the UK as well, an due to an unfortunate incident we got the edited version down here as well when we should've gotten the uncut version like we were supposed to.

But that was all fixed, at least down here, with the 10th anniversary edition which came complete and uncut.

Though when it comes to Ninja Scroll, that was released quite some time back and things have definitely changed since then XD

Its warranted the black panel of "A18+" in the US when in the "Warehouse" stores, other than that, it sometimes might just have a sticker pasted on it for "Graphic Violence" I guess they only sensor it when Nyu is on a nekid Bloodspree fest in the first episode and subsequent blood dismemeberments in later episodes.

I thought this anime was nothing, but gore and pedophilia. I didn't enjoyed it too much. While I prefer more anime try using a darker theme, like killing and brutality at that, I thought Elfen Lied over did the killing.

I think I got my copy before 2004 so I really should get the Uncut DVD at some point since mine is VHS and its degraded (what so I couldnt be arsed to get the DVD)

So I just watched the first episode of Elfin Lied, and I gotta say, I probably wouldn't let a young daughter of mine watch it. I'm pretty desensitized to things like that and I was still a little disturbed. :/ But whatever, if she's not freaked out by it then it's all good. :-)

Also, is it spelled 'Elfin' or 'Elfen'?

Analog misspelled it in the title, it's Elfen Lied, "elfic song" in German.

The first seven minutes of Elfen Lied is one of--if not the--most violent scenes I've watched. I thought the series was absolutely amazing, though...there's quite a bit of violence but it's not constant, nor do I think the lewdness or sexual overtones reach a parentally-uncomfortable level (and FWIW, the manga is a lot more sexually graphic...the anime remains in the realm of tasteful...mostly...). To put it into perspective, someone who watches modern horror movies would be underwhelmed by Elfen Lied's graphic content (at least IMO)

Personally, I was completely hooked after the first scene. Even the credits and the OP are phenomenal =) Gustav Klimt should be honored

You all might think I'm going crazy, but Elfen Lied wasn't that violent. I think that maybe it cause I'm desensitized. To tell you the truth, I haven't even watched all the episodes of Elfen Lied, I just watched some and fast forwarded to all the killing parts, the story bored me. And anyway, I think Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange was more gruesome.

I haven't seen it yet but I wouldn't think it'd be that violent either. This thread was about Analog's kid to begin with so it was a different scale being used.
