I have just bought the entire boxset of 1st Gig, and have started to rewatch them... And I have just noticed something...

At certain times the characters are speaking to each other via their e-brains, and then suddenly they just speak through their mouths to the same person.

For example in episode 2, Testation, Motoko is talking to Batou via e-brains, he starts speaking orally, then electronicly again.

Can anyone explain why they do this?
Or is it unexplainable and they just wanted some movement on screen?

Usually when they do switch from the e-brain talking to talking orally it's when a character has something to say on the other side of the issue. But yeah, the whole wanting movement on the screen does make sense too lol. Imagine 3 minutes with the same frame of Motoko... XD

Well in the episode I mentioned, Batou is complaining, orally, about the huge battle tank in front of him to Matoko, and then she tells him to stay behind the tanks... All he says in e-brain is 'Okie Dokie!'

Well I'm watching the entire series (or attempt to anyway) tonight to see if it happens again... That and it's an extremly awsome series.

It does happen again, I'm pretty sure... you get so used to it all though, sometimes you get a really mixed up e-brain convo between several characters happening but you're sitting there watching it as if it's completely normal to you.

My dad watched a couple of episodes and got confused... I had to explain them to him...
Oh well... I was just checking, to see if I missed anything important.

Isn't there an episode where Batou and the Major are having two different conversations at the same time to mis-lead the tachcomas?

Yes, they pretend to talk about one thing, but somehow manage to communicate other messages via ebrain. That must be pretty hard, leading the tachikomas on by talking about master and slave bondage, and then having a conversation about how sentient the cute little tanks have gotten in their minds. I personally see no problem with this. It's like communicating via body language rather then talking. Sometimes instead of a "I don't know," you give someone a shrug of the shoulders. A thumbs up, a head nod. Blah blah. I think the ebrain speech was added to emphasize the fact that they aren't regular humans any more, and that they're capable of much more then a regular person is.
