Samurai Champloo is starting to air on free tv on SBS this week so I thought it's time to have a thread on what animes are being aired on your local stations right now, this also includes anime on network cables too.

Well Ghost In The Shell: SAC just finished airing last week in Australia and SBS somehow decides to air Samurai Champloo, this is actually quite a surprise to me as it's not usually the type of anime they'd air on free tv seeing most of the other anime series they've aired are cyberpunk genres or have some sort of futuristic themes (this excludes the anime movies they've shown lol). Other than SBS the only other channel airing anime on free tv is Channel 10 early in the morning with One Piece (the hacked up version hahahaha).

I'm hoping with Samurai Champloo being aired on SBS, it may give other people ideas that anime just isn't always either hentai, cyberpunk or futuristic types of series. The only series I'd wish SBS would air is Full Metal Panic Fumoffu lol, it has humorous action and the comedy is definitely laughable, especially the last episode.

hehe actully Speed Racer was on ABC2 a while ago. theres also some anime on channel 7/prime early in the morning sometimes (battle b-damon or however you spell it). aswell as Astroboy on ABC weekday mornings, and Mew Mew Power on a friday is it? on TEN aswell as one peice.

Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Naruto, Inuyasha, One Piece, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon and a bunch of other stuff that WB and CN show. I don't watch any anime on TV since none of the series being aired interest me or I've already seen them. Most likely, I've seen everything CN has shown and will show in the near future.

Sci-fi channel use to show awesome anime movies extremely late during Friday or Saturday night. Fatal Fury and many more anime movies were aired by Sci-fi. Sci-fi has not aired anime, to my knowledge, in a long time.

Adult Swim has GitS: SAC 2nd Gig, Fullmetal Alchemist, Evangellon, and Cowboy Bebop right now. I usually try to watch all or most of those on Saturday night.

Btw darky, why would you want SBS to air fumoffu when you already have it on DVD?

I want SBS to start airing anime series that's different from the usual types they've been airing which are usually series that are cyberpunk or have futuristic themes. They've done that now with Samurai Champloo and plus it's different from the types where they always air serious types of anime series or have little or no comedy at all.

Fumoffu would be a great series to show a more comedic side of anime and maybe reflect a bit on school life in Japan.

I should really e-mail those Sci-fi channel guys and ask them about anime... especially since they are part of my company :P

Ditto here. Also tack on Chrono Crusade on Showtime Beyond, InuYasha and the occasional Digimon episode that looks interesting. (I'm taping all four seasons for my kids from ToonDisney )

Casually there's a FMP?F maratton coming now in April on Animax (Sony's anime channel for Latin America), but that's paid cable so I can't watch it =.=

Yeah, most anime is shown on a Pay TV network which sucks for a lot of people.

Partly cos anime isn't that mainstream or popular with the general public but on the bright side, the popularity for it is growing even to the point where many American cartoons have been influenced with their styles of drawing. That's why I hope Samurai Champloo will raise the anime profile even more in Australia, it has a fun and action packed story that also gives out some cultural references to Japan.

Don't miss this first episode of a new 13-part anime series, colourfully described as hip-hop samurai action "stir fried in cool". It's fast, with lots of fighting and whirling, a very cool soundtrack and a few wincing moments of finger-breaking, all with tongue firmly in cheek.

The storyline (although who needs one with all that going on?) revolves around three characters who set off on a quest. Juu, the ditzy waitress, wants to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers. For some reason the warrior Jin and the arrogant fighter Mugen agree to defer killing each other to carry out the quest. Why is never explained. In the end you can only take the advice at the start of the show: "This work of fiction. Is not accurate historical portrayal. Like we care. Now shut up and enjoy the show."

So it seems like SBS is only gonna air half of the series, most likely to test the water of the popularity of this series. This makes me wonder though, did they also only air half or a portion of Ghost In The Shell: SAC?

If that's the case, I hope the same thing happens for Samurai Champloo and maybe then we can get SBS airing more different variety anime series.

Speaking of Samurai Champloo on SBS, I think they had cut out a scene on tonight's introduction episode. I remember there was a scene where Jin fought those bodyguards near a bridge or some sort (the one where he was wearing a hat) but when I watched it on SBS they sorta skipped it. The one where I think he kills a governor or something, no not the one near the end of the episode where he was fighting along with Mugen but the one earlier in the episode with that peasant begging for help

I did tape tonight's episode as well lol even though I plan on buying the series once the boxset comes out.

Champloo's on again tonight on SBS and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is straight after that. Never really enjoyed watching Bloodlust to be honest lol.
