You know, sometimes in anime its hard to tell whether a character is a boy or a girl. For example, in Fullmetal Alchemist, they have Envy who is a guy but is played by a girl. And I think in one Naruto episode, Naruto combats this male ninja that is, again, played by a girl. In the kids series Mon Coli Knights, the antagonist looks like a girl but sounds like a guy.
Anime can be kinda screwy when it does things like that. :S
Anyone else notice similar confusions?

Yes I have noticed that too, the Japanese voice actors for Ed and Al in Fullmetal Alchemist were female as well

Even the manliest man of them all, Goku from Dragonball Z is played by the same chick through his childhood, into adulthood, into parenthood and through to the very end when he's a grandfather.
There are a tonne of male characters, both Japanese and English that have girls as voices for guys. Personally, in the case of FMA, I thought the English dub voices matched the majority of the characters more than the Japanese did because of that fact. The chick they got in to play Envy for the English version is brilliant since you can't place her as being male of female. It fits the character very well since Envy is a shape-shifter.
But when it comes to not knowing if they're male or female, the look is more disturbing than the sound. Just look at Final Fantasy. There aren't any actual males in it, just females and dickgirls with muscles and flatchests.

Dickgirls? LMFAO!! It's funny how you described that...

Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
20 February 2007, 4:02 PM
Dont worry even the transvestite guy thought Ed was a boy in the movie XD
"Hey there little boy wanna come inside."
"Eds not a boy Ed is a girl."
Went something like that XD
20 February 2007, 7:17 PM
Yeah, mistaking Ed's gender was on purpose since the Bebop crew thought Ed was a boy too XD

Dickgirls eh? I wonder how that came about?
21 February 2007, 12:21 AM

Ed is a cool character but then ein! thought ed wasa boy too if asnyone knew ed was a girl right of the bat i would be suprised.
thought that reminds me of another character called Reni from Sakura wars whom of which is a girl but looks and dresses like a young boy XD

You people should watch yaoi... From what I heard, there are lots of guys there that look like girls...
From my observations, I think male characters that look like females are created stimulate sexual appeal for both genders, most of the time that is... As for female characters that look like males, they're probably meant to mark a lack of gender identification or concern for gender, my favorite example being Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club...
QUESTIONS TO PONDER:
1) Are we really who we think we are?
2) Is time really constant?
3) Is death really the end?
4) Can I kill you?
"Observe, the darling sweetness..."

Yaoi love is really popular over here mostly because the relationship doesn't involve the big breasted stereotype we're all used to seeing. While I admit I'm not truly a huge fan of the stuff, it is refreshing to break away from the boob filled brothel bombasticality of the big name brand girls, and to the boy filled bunches of oats... Blechel? Yuri relationships are the same way, but I have yet to find a truly large sect in this area.
21 February 2007, 8:52 AM
I see Yaoi as being just as stereotypical and cliche as everything else.

In anime... if it looks like a guy it probably is one. If it looks like a girl, it's still probably a guy. If it's a girl with super boobs, there's still a chance it's a guy.
Mai Otome anyone...?

Mai Otome anyone...? Midori's cyborg friend (forget the name, oops) was just a one-off character, but it was quite entertaining to listen to people try to decide whether (s)he was male or female; after all, does gender really apply to a robotic body? The rest of the crew are bonafide girls. Except for that big girl's blouse in the blue coat with the scar on her face.
Just because it's in the thesaurus doesn't mean it's a good idea.
And why isn't 'dethesaurisation' in the dictionary?
When she's in cat form, everyone who meets her for the first time thinks Yoruichi is a guy. Either that, or they faint or scream right away.
~ You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard. ~
When did we start talking about Bleach XD
Well Kyub the cat sounds like a guy i think its supposed to be like that so when she surprises Ichigo it is a surprise, the look on his face XD
The thread targets no specific anime. We can talk about whatever anime we want.
~ You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard. ~
Calm down XD
We can yeah lol i ment "Look started talking about Bleach." or something XD
I know that Kuukaku from Bleach is definitely a girl...
Although, as I said in another thread, she does look suspiciously like Mugen... XD
From what I have heard, the Major would be a lesbian, only due to base of that it has to do soemthing with the way thigns are in the GITS universe.
Compatable components such as computers apply to sex sometimes between cyborgs, which results in female couples souly because they have the same parts. Its based on the workings of software not hardware though, I think, because USB-2 dosent apply to this fact, uh, yeah.
it has to do with compatability.......
Actualy i think there are some parts of a comp that you call female port or male port XD
Chimasterwang Wrote:Actualy i think there are some parts of a comp that you call female port or male port XD
I know that aprt, its just a Shirow world thing. ^_^
Wait, are you saying that male and female cyborg parts are not compatible? XD
Falcon_06 Wrote:Wait, are you saying that male and female cyborg parts are not compatible? XD
According to something I read, yes.
I really don't know, I mean, lets just make it a Mac and PC analogy.
*is striken down by Steve Jobs*
its like Blu-ray and HD-DVD

*fruit basketed*
I really have no clue, it was somewhere about it that I read about tha compatability thing.
