You're right, we do. Where's the human interest and emotional investment? Otherwise it's just paddles and a ball.

Actually I do remember playing a Pong game where the paddles were enemies and celebrated matches by killing each other in increasingly violent ways.
Just because it's in the thesaurus doesn't mean it's a good idea.
