This is why I love the English version of Macross, all of the voice actors I imagined to play all the characters ended up playing all the characters I wanted them to play! lol

Hey, I just noticed something.
The character Skyfire/Jetfire from Transformers looks a lot like a Macross Valkyrie when he is in jet mode. Would you call that a total rip-off?
Don't get me wrong, I, for one, like him.

i know that the used the same toy mould and stuff for Skyfire, however macross was around longer so who knows XD

Lynk Former Wrote:Now's a good time to watch the original series. Just note, it was made in 1982 and is a TV show, the animation is going to be very primitive and isn't going to be anywhere near as amazing as Plus. To add to that, you have that good ol' 80s cheesiness to it, but it's a classic. Once you start, you should not stop, continue on and then suddenly everything will just click together so well and you'll cry for more by the end... rwar.
Haven't managed to get the original series yet, but I did get Macross Zero, that was was excellnet. Loved the story, and the animation was amazing especially the aerial scenes. Can't wait for more.
On the Transformers note, It looks like Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker from the original series were based on Valkyries as well

Well, in my opinion, Skywarp, Starscream and Thundercracker seem to resemble F-15 Eagles more than Valkyries. Valkyries look more like F-14 Tomcats, only with a badass 80's Sci fi upgrade to them.
Anyway, on the Macross topic, the plot for Macross sounds simple:
Humans in the far future pilot badass Valkyrie jets that can transform into robots. They fight evil aliens that use robots that look like balls with two legs. XD

I had the original "Skyfire" toy from the mid 80's. It *WAS* a Valkryie, including Gerwalk mode and all. I don't remember if I knew that at the time, but I know I figured it out when Robotech started airing and I saw Macross: DYRL.

My Starscream model looks like a hybrid of the two rather than a true F15, I was just thinking that the 3 aerial decepticons were probably inspired by the Macross Battroids

you mean Starscream, Skywrap and Thundercracker? or the other three, Dirge Thrust and Ramjet?
Black Howling Wrote:you mean Starscream, Skywrap and Thundercracker? or the other three, Dirge Thrust and Ramjet?
I mean Starscream, Skywrap and Thundercracker
Here's an example of how the Skywarp figure can look like both
a Valkyrie and an F-15. We'll be using my Skywarp figure as an
example.
It looks sort of like both with the two cannons under its wings.
But if we take the cannons off, it looks like a conventional F-15 with a "pimped out" paint scheme.
Now, let's try something: I'm going to fold the wings forward so that it looks sort of like a VF-19A from Macross Plus.
Would this kind of Skywarp configuration look good in Macross Plus?
You can't compare Macross mecha with transformer's, still I can't figure out VF-22 Sturmvogel transformation, is too great
Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
Maverick Wrote:You can't compare Macross mecha with transformer's, still I can't figure out VF-22 Sturmvogel transformation, is too great
Yeah, only one of them originated from a Valkyrie in the first place.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Well, they do transform, don't they? I don't see much of a difference.
Well, other than Valkyries are piloted by human beings, and Transformers are just robots.
Valkyries have a three stage transformation, Fighter, Gerwalk and Battroid. They are nuclear powered, require pilots and use conventional weapons as well as unconventional weapons and a gunpod... just because they are able to transform doesn't make them anywhere close to what Transformers are
Falcon_06 Wrote:Humans in the far future pilot badass Valkyrie jets that can transform into robots. They fight evil aliens that use robots that look like balls with two legs. XD And to clarify, it's set in 2009-2010. This show isn't about transforming robots, it just has that technology available, the story runs much deeper than that. It's not just a simple case of fighting cliche evil aliens, again it's more complex...

Yeah, and, as you said, wasn't it also about a love triangle of some kind?
I actually saw Macross on TV years ago, but it seemed to be another Speed Racer at the time. Now, I regret not watching it. Weren't there giant humans in it or something?
Macross Plus seems like an enormus upgrade from the original Macross. It seems to have a "Top Gun" kind of feel.
Falcon_06 Wrote:Yeah, and, as you said, wasn't it also about a love triangle of some kind? Yeah, the love-triangle aspect is a very important part of Macross as well as the importance of culture, the destruction of war, etc...

Yeah it does have a "Top Gun" feel to it. Macross Plus was made in 94 while the original was made back in 82. Plus used (at the time) the very latest in computer generated animation and so on. It's actually one of the most expensive animes ever created. Though I'm not exactly sure what you're implying when you say "upgrade"...

I meant better animation.
Whoa, this parody looks awesome.

XD Well even without the "breakthrough technology" used in Plus, the fact that it's an OVA while the original series was a TV series pretty much guaranteed that it'd have better animation. Not to mention the fact that the era's they were made in dictated different budget and animation styles.

Is Macross Plus a sequel or a remake of the Original OVA?
What original OVA? The original series is a 36 episode TV series. Macross Plus is a sequal but features none of the characters that appeared in the original. SDF Macross (original) is set in 2009-2010 while Macross Plus is set in 2040.

Hey, if the sequel takes place in the year 2040, then why aren't there any boomers around?
Here's a cool link that I found.

2040 is a heavily used year, along with 2032 actually.
It's a shame the official site is in Japanese only... http://www.macross.co.jp/

Cool site.
I guess BGC does influence other sci-fi movies and anime to a very large extent.
Ah, no, BGC didn't influence anything, the years 2032 and 2040 have been used in things WAAAAAAAAY before BGC and BGC2040. Besides, Macross Plus was made in 94, that's 4 years before BGC2040.

Ah, I see.
I should have asked this question a while ago on this thread.
What's your favorite Macross mecha? Out of all the mechas in all the series?
Mine is the VF-0S.
I think you mean VF-0S, not 5...
My two favourite Valkyries are the VF-1S and VF-19... and don't forget the FAST packs
But I also can't forget the Destroid Monster!

Awesome!
It would be cool if everyone here at TACC could have a virtual Valkyrie dogfight! Of course, we all know who would OWN and get OWNED...
What kind of background music should be playing in the background during the battle?
Edit: I take that back, I like the VF-1S.
Dog Fighter and/or Fate's Arrow from Super Dimension Fortress Macross Those two tracks are so groovy XD lol.
I hate how screwed up the licenses for Macross are with Robotech, if things were much clearer then we'd get more Macross based videogames.

Robotech bastards... XD
I was thinking of the Metal Gear Solid 3 theme for the background music, but yeah, those songs you picked are good.
The thing is that a lot of the Macross games that have come about were all pretty mediocre, I mean they were aright I guess, but nothing that special... then you play Robotech Battlecry and that game alone puts more balance into the whole Fighter, Gerwalk and Battroid aspect of a Valkyrie when it comes to gameplay while the actual Macross games focused on the Fighter aspect alone.

If you have games that focus on all aspects of the mecha, they tend to be more enjoyable. This, sadly is where the Robotech people benefit...
I think Kim might do well in a virtual dogfight since shes played in the flight sim before i think XD
I played that Robotech game i think Lynk =P
Not with a Valkyrie she hasn't

I used photoshop to make my own paint scheme on a VF-1S. A cheap kind of paint scheme, but cool looking.
Another site for Macross (Shoji Kawamori)goodness has opened up. Look here now!
XD
The site also mentions that the new 25th anniversary series will be a TV series.
