The Role of the Boomer

The Role of the Boomer
#1
I've been busy with RL, but anyways, this is something I've given some thought to, and no I'm not talking about SSBNs. Stick Out Tongue

Having now seen some of 2040, the AD Police Files, the AD Police OVA, and oBGC I think oBGC is probably the closest to being reasonably close to reality. The problem with the others is a boomer is basically a titanium hammer with fine ingraved gold inlay mounted on a finely carved hardwood handle, doing the job of a normal ten dollar steel hammer. With mass production automation allows less errors and faster production then a human work force, which pays for its high initial investment.

For a boomer to be worthwhile over it's operational lifetime it needs to cost less in initial cost and O&M then paying Joe/Jill Shmoe off the street to do the same job.

In oBGC Joe/Jill Shmoe is cheaper for most blue collar work, so we rarely see boomers and they tend to be used for higher risk jobs. In the others mass produced general purpose boomers can apparently underprice Joe/Jill Shmoe, but life's cheap enough the AD Police can basically just throw away officers. Boomer costs less then Jill Shmoe waitress, but the AD Police can't deploy some to cut down on casaulties doesn't work for me.

Let's cover combat boomers while we're at it. If their military is not utterly nerfed these things can only really be used effectively in two ways: raiding or garrisoning.

I'm forced to conclude the AD Police gear is seriously nerfed. Not only in actual design with practically non-existant barrels, but in performance. The pistol Priss used in OVA 1 was not that big, had virtually no barrel, and didn't even have a muzzle brake. Here you can see a single shot 50 BMG pistol notice the bulk and muzzle brake on it, and compare that to the dinky by comparison hold out pistol Priss had. She got decent penetration on two C-classes with that thing, which doesn't speak well for their actual armor protection.

The other favored weapon of the AD Police next to their practically barreless carbines, is basically a glorified grenade launcher. The one Leon handles in OVA 1 is maybe 20-30mm in caliber and appears to have a HEAP style setup, which is to say if penetrates like a KE projectile and then detonates in target, although I suppose it could be HESH. The tac squad has a larger caliber one we see in OVA 3, again with virtually no barrel, that might as well be a M-79 because it's moving extremely slowly, which isn't to say Leon's was exactly a speed demon in terms of muzzle velocity.

HEAP would seem the appropriate way to deal with them, and even a M2 with properly fused HEAP should work just fine if it wasn't for author's caveat. The other series boomers come across as less tough then oBGC to me, although 2040 likes to to keep switching the keep the boomer defy physics character protection shields on and off.

Second 1 (Off): Daley easily blasts a part of a boomer into bits.
Second 2 (On): Recoil, impact force, any penetration, what's that?!

A worker costs more than their Wages, their are lots of Hidden costs with a Human Worker like Super/Penshion, Helth and Safety ect that are not their with a Boomer/Voomer. Boomers don't need Brakes Mid Shift for Meals and Toilet or Smoke, Boomers don't steal from the Till or Supply, Boomers don't have to be paied Overtime after Eight Hours and can work for More than 10 hours without seeing drops in Productively or Work Quality (just don't work them more than 16 hours without a Cool-Off and Recharge).

Most New Boomers will be on Hire/Purctuse with a Service Contract, and 2nd hand would go for a song (compare the cost of a New Car to an Ex-Fleet Car).

in ADP, Crash and 2040 all but a few Boomers/Voomers can't "pass" for Human, but in Classic BGC even Experts have a hard time picking a Boomer at times.

So unless Labor Laws chance a lot of your Low Income Jobs are going to go Automated and the jobs Manafacturing Jobs done by folks in Developing Nations today will move back to the First World to be Done by Boomers/Voomers.

The Boomer/Voomer makes Grate Economic sence for all levels of Bisuness
