Sekiria

In the original Bubblegum Crisis it was "Priss and the Replicants". In Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 it's "Sekiria". The band Sekiria has four members. There's Priss, Fox, Maxon and Jaid. Sekiria play at a club called "Hot Legs" on the weekends and are very popular with the crowd.

What does "Sekiria" mean?

Are you sure you want to know? Hmmm, okay. When Chiaki Konaka was hired to write the screenplays for Tokyo 2040, he threw in a plug for his own real-life band, and changed the name to Sekiria. Basically what the story for the name is that a long time ago the band (Chiaki Konaka's real-life band) used to eat at a really filthy restaurant and they used to joke that the place looked so bad, they'd probably all get the squirts from the food. So... "Sekiri" is Japanese for "dysentery" and "Ya" means "store". So they decided to name their band Sekiria (Sekiri-ya) or in other words: "Dysentery Store"...

Featuring Priss Asagiri

We've all seen the poster, "Sekiria live at Hotlegs featuring Priss Asagiri"... We all remember Nene telling Linna about Priss having a boyfriend who died... Put two and two together and it's obvious what the story is. Priss and her former boyfriend shared the same interests, they both loved to perform. Priss's boyfriend had his own band named Sekiria and he introduced Priss to the band. After Priss's boyfriend had died Priss stayed with the band, taking over the lead singer role... "Sekiria... live at Hotlegs... featuring Priss Asagiri..." The band members of Sekiria obviously respect Priss a lot and knows she can take care of herself just as they did Priss's boyfriend. However no more is spoken or hinted at at this past relationship Priss Asagiri once had which still, despite seeing the obvious facts, leaves this a mystery to us all...

Songs by Sekiria

Sekiria have many songs that they have played at Hot Legs. Though in the series we only here five of them played "live". On the Priss Asagiri Vocal Collection CD that was released, there are 11 songs in total. 5 are the song they played "live" in the series: Tonneru no Naka no Wakusei, Bug List, Ame, Idea and Bukkirabou na Ai ni Oboretai. Another 2 aren't played by Sekiria but are background music for the series. They include: Blue Confusion and Fuyu no Kakera. The remaining 4 are the title and ending songs. They are Y'know and Waiting for You and their remixed versions Y'know - Lectro One and Waiting for You - Re-tracked. Sekiria may have written more songs in there time but weren't used in the series. ^_~ ...Oh and if you can't already tell... Sekiria are a retro band, they play older music...

Priss Asagiri's singing voice

In the Japanese version of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Priss Asagiri had two voice actresses playing her. The first was Yuu Asakawa who did her speaking voice and then there was Akira Sudou who does Priss's singing voice. Akira Sudou is a Japanese Pop Music star who isn't that well known in Japan but is very popular outside of Japan due to her role in Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. Her real name is Kazumi Sudou and her first album was released under this name. She was born on the 4th of November, 1971 and was 28 when she recorded the music for Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. After BGC2040 she released an album with Kouichi Korenaga under the name of As Sekiria. This album was called No Obligation and featured six totally original songs by Sekiria. But it didn't stop there, Akira also did a live concert featuring all of the songs Sekiria had performed on Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 as well as the songs from the No Obligation album. It's also interesting to note that she brews her own beer.
