E's Otherwise is an anime that never really became a hit, and although I never got the chance to see it, the opening theme "Jouhou" has been a pretty intriguing element of the series. Originally I found out about it from its trailer with the song playing in the background on the director's cut DVD of Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal.
From the very first listen, the song caught my attention with its mix of rock and pop sound. The electric guitars are probably the most noticeable feature as they play loudly throughout the song. Besides that, it's also interesting to hear violin strings blending in with beats as the chorus ends. It's quite an up-beat track and shows much of its rock side with a little touch of pop through these instruments.
The single's other featured track "Waremono" is closely similar to "Jouhou" but is toned down a little more, with the verses sung at a medium tempo and the chorus at a faster pace. Both are sung by the duo "Sutei-Shoujo" and, as good as they look, it's also a plus that they could sing and harmonise together quite well. The only possible flaw is that at certain times the music seems to overpower the girls' vocals rather than keeping it balanced, especially when you play the songs in high volume.
In the end, if you're an enthusiastic rock/pop listener then perhaps "Jouhou" and "Waremono" are a wise choice to get. These tracks can pretty much stand on their own without ties to E's Otherwise and certainly don't have to suffer the same fate as the anime.
