They were a British ska-punk band that consisted of vocalist Terry Hall, Jerry Dammers, Roddy Radiation, John Bradbury, Sir Horace Gentleman (aka Horace Panter), Lynval Golding and Neville Staples. Their debut LP was produced by Elvis Costello.
Terry Hall later formed Fun Boy Three and they are noted for leading Bananarama to fame. Terry Hall has also worked with The Lightning Seeds, Stephen Duffy, Gorillaz and Tricky and appeared live with The Ordinary Boys.
The Specials had number one hits with "Too Much Too Young" and "Ghost Town" which were not appropriate songs to be aired on the radio at that time, due to their lyrics. As controversial as they are, they remain among my favourite pre-MTV songs.
