DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE is the latest video-game to be given the big screen treatment, and the teaser trailer has surfaced on the net. Cory Yeun (The Transporter) directs the adaptation with a plethora of hotties rounding out the cast including Devon Aoki (Sin City), Jamie Pressley (Can't Hardly Wait), Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2), and Aussie starlet on the rise Holly Valance (TV's Neighbours). The film looks like it could be alot of fun with a Charlie's Angels meets Kill Bill kinda feel. Enjoy.
Before I say anything about this film...I remember I posted a thread about a movie of the Dead Or Alive game starring Holly Valance and said that she could play Hitomi. Well now that a teaser is finally out, and those who have seen it will probably already know how the film will turn out. Holly Valance plays Christie, Jaime Pressly plays Tina, Sarah Carter plays Helena and Devin Aoki plays Kasumi.
Although I don't see Lei-Fang or Jann-Lee in the cast list over at the imdb boards, they might have some cameo appearances seeing that I spotted Gen-Fu in it and he wasn't listed in the cast. My prediction of the film: it'll bomb, simple as that unless it sells alot because of the girls lol.
To be fair as the movie's not even released til around August in the US. I might give this film a chance but won't be expecting much. The fighting actions should draw some interests. So what comments or predictions do you guys have on about this film?
Our species needs to be purged from this planet just because of this movie.

the games were good but people will just go to see the movie because the girls are in slim outfits, i hope the movie is good but like you Darktruth i am not holding much in the expectation department.

I've heard the hype for this movie and to be honest its looking more and more like its gona turn into a 3rd rate flick... hell the only Decent Game to Movie release recently has been Resident Evil and Tomb Raider...
although im keeping my hopes up on the Halo Movie (fan boy moment here) since its got peter jackson listed as executive producer

"Temporal Mechanics are a damn pain in the Ass!!" - Jack O'Neill (SG1)
A producer is someone who funds a movie, an executive producer is someone who provides additional funds to a movie... just because Peter Jackson has his name in the credits won't make it a better movie.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
In all honesty, it has to do with the director and how good he/she can direct the film.
True... and the Director has yet to be Named and Bungie are being tight lipped about the specifics as usual

I'd rather see some movies that take a few years to make and are very original rather than some lame eye-candy movies that are just cheap game rip-offs.

The real question is... would this movie have been worse if Uwe Boll directed it?
I really don't have very high expectations for this movie, but who knows, maybe the people behind it will put some real effort into it and end up surprising me.

Game-to-movie movies never work out. Well, mostly. I don't expect this one to be any different.
This looks like rubbish... and I completely agree with you Moelman all we have to do is take a look at Super Mario Bros. the movie. Although with Peter Jackson directing Halo maybe he can turn around turn this game-to-movies problem right around.
Personally, I am obsessed with DOA, but the only three ways this movie will be a success is if:
1: The cast looks, acts & feels exactly the characters from the game.
2: They pull some kind of advent children twist.
3: They choreograph the fights to look just like the game.
Progress Level: 70%
(I STILL need KnightSabre Sprites! >_<')
Don't forget that the plot will have to keep people interested or curious as well. But being that this movie is based off a fighting game, the plot will probably be absent. I don't even know if they will focus on Kasumi's story at all as the movie summary seems to be geared towards a "charlie's angel meets kill bill" type plot.

True, if they want this movie to sell, they better change their approach & think of a new storyline that chains off the real storyline.

after watching the teaser (some time ago, i think lynk posted it on the previous incarnation of C3F) i thought they had screwed it up. its gone too american (sorry if anyone takes offence to this, but its true.) I would much prefer it if it was made in Japan, or actually taken from the game storylines. the huge fights of hundreds against 3 or 4 doesnt fit to DOA in my mind.
I Killed The Prom Queen.
I'm scared of this movie.
ok I don't mind seeing some chicks in tight outfits
but DOA has pretty no storyline at all, this is like mortal combat but then with less story..
(MK movies kinda sucked btw)
This movie is like your average porn movie with the bad acting but no porn...

Anyway, DOA blows ass, considering they completely abandoned any possible non-sucktitude and went for the "we got hot chicks * that shoot shit up and kick people" thing, who really cares.
It's best to just ignore it.
*=who aren't really hot at all...
CapN well if you are, I'm off for now.
Sith sounds good well be safe, don't dismember anything.

the doom movie wasnt that bad... then first person bit at the end is really cool i thought. but there were many bad parts of the movie.
I Killed The Prom Queen.
It was THAT bad... the first person bit was very cheesy. The movie was a flop, the first week it did well cause all the curios fans went to see it... following that... hardly anyone went to see it and no one cared.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
ppl think:
hey let's make a movie of that and that game,
purely cuz they know the fans would at least see it once or twice....

I saw the preview to this, and it looks like a bad varsion of the charlies angels movies.
In all honestly, DOA does not have the greatest of back stories.
I normally don't expect much from video game movies. About the only video game movie that I have seen that has been exceptionally good was the Resident Evil movie. Followed by Residet Evil 2, and then Doom.
Doom is was disappointed with. They could of done a lot more with that film, but they didn't.
They could've followed the actual storyline of Doom, but they didn't. They did some bullshit and called it Doom, they suck.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
A few things I've always noticed about game-movie transitions is that whoever it is that's responsible for this feels it necessary to screw with what made the game enjoyable in the first place. For example, Halo is such a cinematic game that it could really be completely lifted into the movie, only with cuts made to the various action scenes of the game. Honestly if you've ever played halo I think you'll know what I mean. But how much do you want to bet, that they're going to find the need to completely change the backstory (Doom movie and GENETIC ENGINEERING that corrupts people that are "bad"? gimme a break, a) that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, because somebody's personality doesn't have a lot to do with his genetic make-up, and b) the monsters are from hell. It satisfied possibly millions of gamers, and it should satisfy your audience). Still, if you have Peter Jackson as a producer, depending on his level of involvement there is still hope...so long as they don't have Uwe Boll as their director (oh heavens no, remember Alone in the Dark!!)
Another example of this stupid transition is Resident Evil. WHY did it have to be a stupid, gross, shoot-em-up action flick with a sexy, take-no-shit heroine that...OOOH has a mysterious past that is clumsily revealed through innumerable flashback scenes. The original story was FINE, and the ATMOSPHERE created in the original is what it was famous for -- why change it, when you have the perfect horror story right in your hands?
Finally, I have zero hopes for Dead or Alive the movie. There is almost no story in the original game (like most other fighters, it's not a flaw of DoA), which means you're pretty much guaranteed a canned plot designed to show as much cleavage as possible, and possibly a romantic interest (a heroine is guaranteed to fall in love with a male outsider character -- or else she's secretly been in love with him for years but he only notices her because of her fighting skills). The fights will never be as exciting, because there's this obsession in mainstream cinema with fights being "realistic", which is why the original MK sucked (Liu Kang's bicycle kick was lame), and you can bet that the girls of DoA the movie aren't going to be arcing 10 feet in the air after a particularly viscious blow.
Also...seriously why do they keep casting Devon Aoki. Her face is disturbing...to me at least.
What makes a person like Uwe Boll sit down and say; "Hmm, my last movie was the worst piece of crap ever to hit movie theaters. I think I'll make Alone in the Dark next!" I had high hopes for a dead or alive movie only because there was a lot of room in the plot for something magical to happen. It's also for this reason that I was truly afraid it would be screwed up by an overzealous producer. Games like DOA hold lots of promise when it comes to making a movie, but it's the idiots that change and screw with the little plot that a game has that totally dissapoints fans in a box office release. My guess is that hollywood thinks: "Well, they've played the whole game already, so why not give them something fresh, something new?" Our minds are made for us and we're inturn given a pile of slop.
simple way of putting the DOA movie:
Bikini kung-fu

Well the movie is finally getting released tomorrow in Australia while the UK gets it on the 15th of September but the US people will have to wait til the 20th of October to see it. I doubt I'll be watching this unless I want to see it just for laughs and see how terrible they did to the movie adaptation of the game.
and if you want a peek at the movie, then see the international trailer

The games where good in my opinion but the movie will stink, Though i cant wait for the halo movie to flop that is... the sonner that game dies out the better...

I'll watch it...
... once it comes on regular cable TV in a couple of months. But it'll just be to see Devon Aoki XDDD

seriously,
if a game story is good, they wanna make a film of it why screw with the original plot?
(ok DOA hasn't GOT much of a story but still lol)
it's like Mortal combat and I think compared to the DOA movie they did a better job on it too.
(the first movie the sequals were pretty not that great)
