I mean, over the past few weeks DAZ has been anouncing they're making their copyright rules even stricter, so now this comes out? I mean seriously WTF? are their copyright guys complete idiots?

Well this kind of thing happens AAAAALL the time... just look at all of the ripoff console products where they either look like the console they're trying to ripoff but feature very simple atari generation games in lil carts or the ones that play old NES games that are built in that aren't supposed to...

Sure, the company may not be producing works anymore, but if the copyrights havent gone public or the holders havent sold them to anyone, then it still counts.

I tested that theory with a different company. I wanted to make somee fan episodes for ReBoot, they even sent my question to their copyright dept to see if they might say yes since NOBODY is doing anything ReBoot related anymore. They still said no. So I'm betting if I cant do fan stuff for my personal use, they cant do stuff to sell.
