Prey... A game that breaks the gravity of other games... Litrally.
My copy of this arrived yesterday, and I was impressed with it... until today.
The single player is class... You play Tommy, a native american who doesn't believe in his 'religion'. HE wants to leave the reserve he lives on with his girlfriend Jen, except she doesnt want to leave. So just as he's about to convince her to leave with him, sods law happens.
Tommy, Jen and Tommys grandfather are kidnapped by aliens.
Shit happens eh?
Prey plays using the Doom III engine, and makes good use of it. The metallic walls are foreboding, and the live parts of the 'sphere' they are trapped on are really sickening... dripping with blood when you shoot the walls, and... i think you get the idea.
Now to look at this game you'd see a normal FPS... Big weapons... Lots of gore, and swearing...
But its the gravity bending that sets this apart from other games.
There is no set floor on this game.
One moment your running down a corridor shooting the sons of bitches that have kidnapped you... Next you've shot a switch that has twisted the whole planet upside down. Now you're running on what used to be the ceiling.
Then there are the gravity walkways. You walk on a set path, that can go up walls, round corners, on ceilings... And if an alien appears on the walkway, if you kill it, the normal gravity will kick in and it will fall... It really is quite disorientating... You will feel slightly dizzy the 1st time this happens.
The game also deals with cracks in space. Through little portals, that can appear in absolutly anything (for example in boxes that have fallen over), you can just walk from one side of the 'sphere' to the other in a matter of seconds.
Next is the spirit walk. Press Y and your spirit will leave you body to wander around where you're body cant go... For example, through force fields. Just be wary of where you leave your body while you're doing this.
Those add ons later create tough puzzles for you to solve will trying not do die...
Well I say die loosly... For when you 'die' you dont actually 'die'... You get teleported to the land of the dead where you have to shoot these red or blue wraiths to give yourself health again, and then you're shot back into your body to continue the good fight. Due to this, some players may find the game slightly too easy... But belive me, its much better than getting shot back to the last save point every time you die... And for me, a guy who keeps forgetting to save... I think you get the picture... lmffo!
Now for the shitty part...
The multiplayer.
It sucks.
Full stop!
Ok fine I'll go into more depth...
It's as laggy as shit... One minute you're shooting someone, next sec they're gone... vanished into the night... or most probably a portal to the other side of the level.
And believe me when I say this... It wasnt my connection that was lagging it... Read CADs review on this game and he says he got lag too.. On the PC version!
Also, it seems this game isnt very long... I happen to be about 3/4 of the way through the game already... And I havnt even playing it very long... I think... I'm not too sure... You know what they say, time flies when you're having fun!
I give this game a...
7/10
Single player is class... Multiplayer sucks complete balls!
