I know it's a little late but...WHY IS THERE NO THREAD IN HERE ABOUT THE WORLD CUP?
No matter I'll start one. Talk about anything world-cup related here -- favourite teams, commentary about games, predictions and the like.
I'll go first
I'm rooting for Portugal and Brazil, Brazil because, well, they're Brazil (and this way the odds are fairly high I'll be a fan of the winning team) and Portugal because I like their uniform, and I think they have a chance this year after some disappointing world cups and a whole bunch of years of simply not qualifying.
But enough about that, has anybody caught any of today's games -- any crazy goals to talk about?
On a seperate note -- spain is doing surprisingly well this year, so they might be worth some further investigation.
I'M TOTALLY SICK OF IT!, if I see another football related advertisement on TV I'm going to shove people against it ><
I'm rooting for my team duh

Football is cool. And so is the World Cup. I'm rooting for Germany. And any of the smaller countries of the world.
As a german I´m obviously rooting for germany I think Klinsmanns tactical changes which made the german team playing more agressive made their gamestyle much more enjoyable.
I´m also rooting for Ghana today (sorry U.S. Fans) because it would be a shame if there was no African team in the round of the last 16.
Brazil and Argentina are still the favorites in my eyes, Spain was looking good but that´s what they always do and then they are out in the quarterfinals - it´s happening again every 4 years.
It´s a really great atmosphere here in Germany, many people have attached small german flags onto their cars which is unusual cause due to our recent history too much enthusiasm seemed a bit suspicious for many people.
Even the wheather is unusually great since the World Cup started^^
Portugal vs. Netherlands
For anybody who hasn't seen it already, don't. It was a horrendous game and I for one am fairly disappointed at both sides, but mine in particular, especially considering how clean their play has been thus far. In summary, a record number of warnings were given out (16, I believe), with 4 red cards given, some serious "simulation" going on, and a really rough injury for ronaldo. Aside from a very nice goal set up by deco and pauleta for maniche to finish, the game was absolutely horrendous.
Against england, portugal is looking especially weakened with Deco sitting it out due to his red, cristiano possibly injured, and figo facing possible suspension after a headbut (!!) for no apparent reason. Ugh.
Yes sir-eee England Vs Portugal looks like an easy game for England now...

Not the way england's been playing (i.e. laughably).
GO PORTUGAL!
I got ******** riding on England Spec

SCREW SOCCER! MUAHAHAHAHA! shit, the US is out...
SCREW SOCCER STILL!
I hope the Aussies triumph over the Italians....and Ghana defeats Brazil.
Well the Aussies have lost, but they can be proud cause they were an equal rival for Italia. Too bad that the game had to be decided by a penalty just a few seconds before the end of injury-time. Neill should have known better than making such a clumsy tackle in front of the own goal.
And....Ukraine wins in the Penalty Shoot out. 3-0.
Okay, I admit it. I watched the Italy/Aus game today. It was even entertaining... even if Neill picked the worst time for his worst play of the match.

Over here Italy's triumph over Australia was titled as "VERGÃENZA", which means ......shameful.
edit: lol I translated it wrong, sorry sorry
Really, the referees are the ones that worries me the most, Argentina got 3 valid goals anulated by the referees so far....and Netherlands - Portugal match was poorly handled ><

I know it´s a bit late but I was right, Spains misfortune at Worldcups continues. This time they even reached only the round of the last 16.
Thumps up for Zidane!
GAH! A GERMAN!!! *runs away screaming*

Hehe
*speaking in a scary tone* Yes, run mortal but that won´t help Argentina this evening vs Germany:P
I don't even know who I am rooting for in that game, but it looks like it will be very exciting, given the offensive strength of both teams.
I hope they have a good ref for that game though, jeez.
Germany wins! In penalty kicks! Yeah!
Very bad sportmamship by the Argintines..

Yeah. And Italy beat the Ukraines.
So it'll be Germany v. Italy in the next match.
Portugal vs. England today!!!
man, losing by penalties is the worst, and we didn't have our goalkeeper, but well, we played pretty bad ><
so anyways.... now I'm Portuguese and French! WHOO! GO PORTUGAL!

It was a klose ahm I mean close game. Germany never ever lost a penalty shoot-out at a World-Cup so I was pretty confident after extra-time expired.
I guess only Jose Pekerman knows why he took Riquelme out and brought Cambiasso in, I also feared that the lively Messi would be substituted and again Pekerman is the only one who knows why this didn´t happen. As a German I´m happy with the outcome, if I were an Argentinian I would have to ask myself if my country could have won with another coach on the bench
yes, he did indeed screwed up with the changes, but it wasn't his fault, we lost because we let the germans make a goal 10 mins before the end, the team didn't go well, that's all.
hahaha Brazil eliminated, serves them right, I got tired of them mocking us after we got kicked out of the cup.

looking at the teams, i think i'd like to see france and germany in the final with france pulling out on top. zidane might look like a monk, but when he's on he's really awesome.
does anyone else think ballack looks like matt damon? hmmm....
....kinda.
in a 'ima dunce' sorta way.... :-/
bah. PORTUGAL is a diving team? please.
What a terrible loss -- portugal playing excellent football and france winning by biased referee.
LAME
Brilliant game, the better team won... Via la france!

hmmm, portugal playing excellent? granted, the ref wasn't great (same who one did the usa vs italy game), but they were clearly calling for fouls that weren't fouls. every touch was a dive, which is just crap playing really. c. ronaldo, granted, is a very talented player. he just didn't get the support he needed this time around.
Okay, since the final is only a couple of days away, lets predict who'll win. I htink France will win, well I hope anyway. Not because I'm a French fan, but I think it'll be good for Zidane to go out in a bang. I'll also hate it if the Italians win because half the population of my school is made up of Italians and I'll never hear the end of it how they beat Australia and go on to win the World Cup for the fourth time.
I'M ROOTING FOR THE REFEREE! GO! GIVE THEM HELL!!!!
*does not really care who wins*
Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
i'm also rooting for france for the same reason. zidane is spectacular and if he can go out on top, he should. on the italian side, i feel bad for totti since he's kinda getting up there as well.... but someone's gotta lose!
Me... Italian maybe because a few genations back some of my family member emigrated from there into England. Otherwise I woudn't be watching...

I think that if we should feel sorry for someone Italian, it shouldn't be Totti. At least he participated in the World Cup. What about Christian Vieri? The guy's about 32 years old and an injury prevented him from participation. And I don't think that he ever got anyway close to the grand final in the World Cup.
By the way, I have to say, well done to Germany for getting 3rd place. Before the World Cup finals started, I thought they'd only get up to the Quater Finals.
France won. And Zidane sure nows how to end his career.
