So I've managed to crash my system again. Chances are however within 12 hours (sleeping included in this time) I should have it up and running.

However, it's still distressing when you watch you system slowly lose life. All those days, weeks, months, years spent customizing and optimizing, and you see it die. Watching it fade, literally fade away, down the drain in one moments slip of the mind, . It's like a crazy cyber child in a way, all that slaving over what is eventually nothing. It just makes you want to kick the **** out of your case, but you know it'd only add to the repair/restoration work.

Anyway, anyone else decide to go extreme with the internals of their computer to see just how much customization and optimizing you could do, and crash your system?


PS: Don't mess too much with process of an OS startup, it only ends in pain.
And I think after I bring it back to life this time, my system will have earned it's name as "BothanSpy". It dies to bring me information.

My PC is pissing me off at the moment, it's the reason TACC and its network sites haven't been updated in the last month or so... x.x I can't get anything done when everything doesn't work.

I wouldn't say my system is very customized as I haven't had an upgrade since I built it back in 6th grade The only thing close to a crash I've had was when I had a trojan, and every time I would open an Internet browser, and sometimes just after a certain amount of time, the system would restart. It was really messed up but after like 2 days of work it was back up and running again.

I remember when I had my first system crash :sweat: not a very pretty site... luckily I got it fixed. Stupid computers.. but not as bad as dial up internet service.

You know all those configuration files that stage your OS boot-up and such?

I did too much alteration to them. I got performance boosts, but it caused my OS to become too unstable and now it doesn't even boot up. I can still access the data, but due to all the changes I've done, it'd be near impossible to undo them all and get it back precisely as it was before it crashed. After smoking a bit, I figure I can put in one of my small hard drives, do a fresh install on that. Move some of the files around on my drive (sort them out between the various other hard drives) I was using, format that, then put all it's contents back on it (music, pictures, etc.).

At least then I'll finally have everything indepent from my main drive. I kept wanting to do that anyway, but I was too lazy.

That sucks, Man. Computer issues drive me grazy. As a result, I don't tinker all that much. These days I don't have much free time, and the last thing I want to do is spend it cleaning up a mess...

I don't do much tweaking, I mostly play with the BIOS config, and the windows Regfile, is pretty easy to return it back to normal if I screw up.

Still I backup my OS's files relugarly on DVD

Haven't had a big issue like you seem to be having. But recently I had an issue with one of my laptops extra RAM dying out on me. It would then cause the computer to shutdown randomly after loading a few pages. Once I had figured out it was the ram I then had to remove it. After that it worked like normal. I guess everyone ends up having probs with their comps every now and then.

Almost forgot. Anyone ever get the click of death? That's when the harddrive just dies on you. It sucks.

About a month ago I formated my primary computer because it took around 3 minutes to start up and couldn't shut down because of the hanging apps. It felt so nice to have a nice and clean computer after nuking it. I take better care of it now and I install and use less progs I don't want.

I have a customized computer, but I have had to get it fixed up because there was some stupid viruses...

But, that's pretty bad....
