Technically it was Pokemon and DragonBallZ, but back then I was pretty young and I didn't even know they were called Anime. Samurai Champloo is what got my started on Anime recently.

God.... Well Ghost in the Shell was the first thing I ever watched, but the First one I ever owned myself has to be AD Police TV. It was a DVD that I picked up to play on my new Computer DVD-rom, On the Pre-views it had BGC 2040 which lead me here....

For my real anime, guess what? It was BGC-2040. ok so I was going through SCI-FI channel and something grabbed me... the name " Bubblegum Crisis ". I thought it sounded great so I began to tape it. And I think after that it was... Akira, or maybe I watched Akira first.

It was Speed Racer for me, but the anime that got me into anime was of course Dragonball Z. At the time, it was "Woah, a cartoon with a story?!?", and I haven't turned back since.

Akira, Blood: The Last Vampire and Blue Gender were the first anime that I saw. I was tired of the tired cliches in American/British film/television and looking for a new distraction; anime filled the slot nicely.

First I watched was probably in 1975, which was Speed Racer. Watched Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman sp?) in 1977 along with Star Blazers (Yamato) the next year. Started really liking anime in 1985/86 with Robotech and particularly "Macross: DYRL". That was the first anime I actually bought. Other early titles were Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair, Appleseed and Silent Mobius after that.

I think what got me truly hooked on anime was when i saw mobile police Patlabor for the first time, from then on i was into stuff like Dominion, GITS, Gundam wing, ADP, BGC... and dare i say it Genocyber, i even got into Digimon for a while for some reason.

Like I said, Sailor Moon was my first ever anime (though I didn't know what anime was at the time) but it was Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 that actually started my fascination with it. Originally Tokyo 2040 was aired several times on SBS in Australia but I didn't catch it until late 2001 when it had a marathon of the series over 3 nights (mind you it was on at around 2am or so).

First Anime seen was Samurai Pizza Cats and Kimba the White Lion in about 1992/93. Picked up Anime again with Evangelion, Ghost In The Shell and Akira in about 1998 and then a small lapse in anime, picking it up again in 2002 with Ninja Scroll, X, Blood the Last Vampire and Wicked City, with small doses of DBZ inbetween.

That goes for me too. I mean, during my childhood many of us watched some older anime series on local TV, but after a few years I distanced myself from them, actually developing a kind of aversion against anime until 2001 when I played that nice little computer game called ONI and I remembered what great stories anime has to offer. Since Mononoke had just come to German theaters at that time, this was the first anime I watched by intention, however GITS was the first I dragged home to watch it on my TV, and after that, the first anime I ever bought (on VHS). The franchise has ever since been one of my big favourites including SAC and Innocence, not to mention the original manga.
BGC (classic followed by 2040) came roughly one year later after I had seen Evangelion, El Hazard and some other stuff.

Speed Racer. I believe Nick was showing Speed Racer a long time ago. I watched it before I went to bed when I was like 4, 5 or 6. Don't remember my age. I know I watched Speed Racer before I was able to watch Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon.

Lol, being half japanese, my mother got me Dragon Ball Z toys. I remember getting Dragon Ball Z toys and had no clue who these character were. Remember, it took a very long time before Dragon Ball Z start airing in America. So, I had toys from Majin Buu saga and it was show in the US until 10 or so years later.

First anime I remember watching: "The Little Mermaid / Anderson Dowa: Ningyo Hime"

This was around the time Disney's Little Mermaid came out. Someone got this for my sister, we watched it once, I thought it was pretty darn scary, we hid it in the back of the tape drawer never to be watched again. (yes, I'm a wuss...)

Fast forward about 9(?) years... I'm sitting in a hotel room in Reno while my parents are out gambling. Stumbled upon Gundam Wing on Toonami while channel surfing, went out and bought the VHS tape when we got home. Been hooked ever since.

Grew up with Voltron and still have my Voltron with metal parts and shooting weapons.

But what really got me into Anime was Vampire Hunter D, Dragon ball and Bubblegum Crisis OVA.

I'm pretty sure it was DBZ, cuz I remember it was on in the mornings before I would go to school, back in elementary school. Cardcaptors was on the weekends, a few years later, me thinks.

I never really got into anime until years after watching Cardcaptors, and then seeing the manga for sale at Borders last year.

Heh. When I was younger I hated Pokemon because I was too smart to be tricked into liking it's retardedness (I didn't even get pokemon cards in a time that every single kid on my block had some). So no anime until it about died, and all the boys on my block started watching Dragon Ball Z. That was the first anime that I watched every day.

Between 01' and 05' nothing happened, I got tired of DBZ actually. In the autum of 05' I see two YTMND's that at the time I didn't know was from the same anime. [1] [2]

But in the winter of last year I watched AMV Hell 3 and I watched it like 10 times. I liked two of them and noticed they looked familiar and I find the name in the credits and realize there were a crap load of AMVs using Azumanga Daioh. So I Netflix the first DVD, I get it and watch each episode like 5 times. So the next week I order the boxed set and last month I even bought the entire manga series. I love that shit.

Azumanga Daioh got me hooked, I've been a low-level anime nut for the last 6 months.

Uh, I have no idea which truly came first, but some of the excessively early ones include: Speed Racer, Macross, the animated Ultraman movies, DragonBall, and possibly various other such things...

I too also caught the sci-fi channel broadcast of the first four eps of OAV BGC. Back then when the sci-fi channel was actually showing cutting edge schtick, I watched and waited for every saturday morning that summer. Originally I hated BGC, mostly because it looked old and dated, and the plot sounded stupid, but the action channel on comcast cable started showing the same shows almost six years later, I got hooked. It was BGC, Dominion Tank Police, Darkside Blues, Nightmare Campus (hehe...), Original Appleseed, Voltron, G Force, Robotech, Macross, Macross seven, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Gasaraki. It wasn't until four years ago, when they first started showing BGC 2040 on cable tv that I fell in love with the Bubblegum universe again.

How could I forget mine? It was Megaman! It remember watching on the WB channel around 5:30 in the morning before I went to school. That anime is awesome up to know I still find myself Super devoted to anything about Megaman! (Except the hentai... Yuck!!! >.<')
