StarWars.com Wrote:Fans can look forward to a September filled with classic Star Wars nostalgia, led by the premiere of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game and the long-awaited DVD release of the original theatrical incarnations of the classic Star Wars trilogy.
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.
This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st. International release will follow on or about the same day. Each original theatrical version will feature Dolby 2.0 Surround sound, close-captioning, and subtitles in English, French and Spanish for their U.S. release. International sound and subtitling vary by territory.
"Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we're very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars. Topping it off with a new interactive adventure makes September 12 a red-letter day for Star Wars fans."

That's right folks, after GL suckered us all with his many sets of the Star Wars trilogy both on VHS and DVD... he's FINALLY releasing the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD as it was seen in cinemas way back in the day...
This is not the Special Edition and it's not the updated DVD Edition that has Hayden Christensen at the end of Return of the Jedi... this is the oldskool goodness, before the prequals.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
YES! I have been hoping they would do this ever since I watched the OT DVDs and realizing what a crappy job they did at 'remastering' them or whatever. I have actually never seen the original releases, the first Star Wars that I saw was the 1995 trilogy re-release, and I'm not exactly sure whether that had anything added or changed in it or not.
I can't wait till September!
I'm not sure if I ever saw the originals, so hopefully, I'll like them. Then again, it's Star Wars, so if I don't like them, I have problems.
Okay..... Let me get this stright..... their releasing the original as the original?
How many versons are there?

Well let's see... there's the original VHS releases of the threatrical release... there's the remastered edition... then there's the special edition... then years later the DVD edition... and now the theatrical DVD edition... XD lol There are a lot more releases out there but that pretty much covers it.
But releasing the theatrical version on DVD is a BIG thing since a lot of people wanted it.

Do you own every single copy of these Starwars editions?
George must be making a mint off you guys....

Nope, I have the Special Edition (VHS) but seeing as I don't have a VHS player it's sitting in a dark corner somewhere. I do have the Original Trilogy set and the three prequal movies on DVD.
I'm not a diehard SW fan, Sithy on the other hand has pretty much every release
I will be getting this new set cause, well it's the original unaltered version, the way they were seen back when they were each released. It's a must have.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
I guess.... but it makes you wonder just how much this will make George richer

I don't think he really cares anymore, I mean he's already rolling in money lol.

I always thought Lucas would hold on to these and release them if he decided to go ahead with remaking the original trilogy. That way, nobody could complain. The diehard fans could have their untouched version and there'd be a brand spankin' new version for everyone to see and make him even more ridiculous amounts of money.
Still, I guess I'll be getting these. I never seen any of the original versions in their entirety, but I'm sure I saw parts of them on TV before the Special Editions came out. It'll be nice to see the movies the way they were first made.
Actually no, for a long time GL was trying to convince people that it was better to have the altered versions only, but after MANY people complained, and trust me, it was a lot... I guess they finally gave in.

why would he ever remake the original trilogy. I realize that there were a lot of things he wanted to do with the movies that he couldn't because of limitations...but the film is just so great as it is, and a lot of those cuts he had to make have really come to be a part of the movie itself.
In any case, I love the films, and I still watch them from time to time -- but I just like the idea of star wars even more -- so everything about that franchise, whatever money GL is trying to milk out of it, is fine by me. I don't think I'll ever get tired of star wars games, books, even this crazy new TV series they're talking about (I'm really excited for this because it isn't going to be about the main characters, so I'm hoping it will be a lot like SWG was before all the crazy changes they made).
The DVD revisions of the Original Trilogt were made so that things tied in with the Prequals more smoothly.
