I was wondering how many people here have a collection of original and/or US licensed OST's, singles of anime or J-pop cd's? It's obvious that the original Japanese releases cost an arm and a leg to buy. I usually only buy original Japanese singles of opening and ending themes that I really like since you can't really get them domestically (unless you look up your local anime stores that stock them but even then the range would be pretty limited) and very rare older soundtracks and albums.

It's only been 1-2 years since ADV and Geneon started licensing soundtracks and albums from animes which is a good thing considering it makes them more cheaper to afford, if only Madman started licensing them too. I doubt ADV & Geneon would license any drama cd's or singles anytime in the future though.

Well, my collection has grown quite a bit since I last posted. This is mostly thanks to some great online sales after Geneon left the US anime market. Of course, they were just about the only company still releasing anime OSTs and with them gone, OSTs have basically become pack-in only items again. It’s so depressing.

You people from the US are so lucky to have such big anime companies to release special limited edition packs with the cd's. Madman had a poll option over at their forums awhile ago asking what anime ost's would we want for them to license but ever since that there's really been nothing happening other than them releasing limited edition tin boxes of FMA with OST 1 & 2.

The only CD's I have as part of a set are the Nadia ones. All the others I bought either online from Japanese import dealers or at Japanese bookstores in the US. For a while I made a living traveling to Manhattan, NY just to buy Anime books, LD's and CD's. That's where I bought all my BGC OVA CD's for sure. Of course, it helped that I was buying them shortly after they had been released in Japan.

There really isn't that big of a selection of OST's and Vocal Collections that I'm interested in these days, and the ones I want aren't "released" here in the US anyway. Import stores (albeit expensive) are still the way to go for CD's. :/

I found it as I was searching through sony music (japan) looking for another artist (I think for the end to boogiepop phantom). Some music was randomly playing and I immediately knew I had to have the CD. Go figure.

I finally received my Chobits singles, FMP Fumoffu's OP/ED single and E's Otherwise Jouhou single and another single to add to my collection is Shuffle! Innocence single.

Does anybody here have any Drama CD's? LOL I intend to buy the Chobits Drama CD's purely for the sake of collecting XD but it could help with my study of Japanese at school anyway since I've been studying it for years now.

I finally been able to find a copy of FMP! Fumoffu? ost on Yahoo Japan Auctions and won it wheeee! I have a complete Fumoffu collection now XD. There's alot of other CD's I want to get at the moment but I'm sure my wallet can't handle that lol.

I have a lot of music, but what I cherish the most is my Boom Boom Satellites autographed cd of "Full of Elevating Pleasures." If you've never heard of them, they contributed a couple songs to the Appleseed Movie soundtrack. These guys along with the breakout Madcapsule Markets are some of my favorite and most loved.

Well Lynk, after I seen those Macross videos, I suddenly transformed into a Mari Iijima fanboy and have bought a ton of her albums. Thanks!

Albums I own from her (with some commentary):

Rose (1983) - Great electronic compositions with some production help by legendary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, making the whole album a nice and easily accessible listen. A personal favorite.

Blanche (1984) - Excellent compositions that one-up Rose, along with Mari getting a chance to show off some beautiful piano melodies, though the version of Angel's Paint is a little spooky in comparison to her Macross Version. My second favorite album.

Midori (1985) - My personal favorite, great uses of an orchestra, along with some excellent piano work and ultra-catchy electronic sounds. One of the few albums I can listen to the whole way through with ease

Kimono Stereo (1985) - Not as good as her first three albums, but it still has some excellent tracks that shows Mari was a prime of sorts, as there's plenty of good compositions to make it very listenable.

Coquettish Blue (1987) - Mari moved to another label and underwent production of her own albums from that point forward. Though it doesn't have the benefit of the sweeping productions her first four albums had, she still manages some great pop songs and works through some much needed growing pains.

Miss Lemon (1988) - Mari arrives in L.A. to make an album, and the band that backs her up is incredibly talented, as this album is laced with memorable pop hooks and energized production. Her best since Midori.

My Heart In Red (1989) - More L.A. sounding pop music, this time we get some stronger American influences and plenty of worthwhile songs to compliment her previous effort Miss Lemon.

After owning all of her 80s albums, and being her 90s material is so hard to find, I've bought most of her independent releases from her label MariMusic.

Silent Love (2003) - Nice electronic compositions, though it's a bit too relaxed at times to be one of her best, but fans will find a good amount of tracks to enjoy nonetheless.

Gems (2004) - Combines the best material from her first two indie-efforts, this is easily one of her best, as she crafts another album I can listen to the whole way through with no trouble. Quality pop music.

Wonderful People (2004) - Mari trys some interesting electronic gimmickry and even hits a cool laid back groove now and again to make this album another chill-out piece from her latter-period. Contains a few really great songs for being such a short album.

Uncompromising Innocence (2006) - Her latest album proves to be her most solid album aside from the Gems compilation, there's plenty of modern sounding stuff on this release, alongside some worthy piano ballads, great to see her music continue to grow even after 25 years of being in the music industry.

You people from the US are so lucky to have such big anime companies to release special limited edition packs with the cd's. Madman had a poll option over at their forums awhile ago asking what anime ost's would we want for them to license but ever since that there's really been nothing happening other than them releasing limited edition tin boxes of FMA with OST 1 & 2.

Its also helps there is a mass fan movement and access of thigns by internet that we can find so many forms of the things we want circa 1990 in digital form for download, except for some thigns before that time.

I preffer holding carbon copppies, I do't care what resolution your scanner is, I want a booklet in ym hand to smell and feel and flip through in my hand! Oh, and I strike down any one that insists on mp3 format, its so old!


Amazingly, I was able to find a store in my hometown that has actual original Japanese imports at the price for a normal disc, average of 10 to 15 dolars, depending on either the edition or the amount of CDs or how pretty the case looked.

The cool thing is I don't have to really bother with the horrid import prices of CD's on Borders or Amazon, (50 bucks?! And thats only 1 disc too!)

Ive been able to find the odd OST in a Sam Goody or Tower Records (sadly Towers is gone, they still had Akira soundtrack disc available). I was able to find probably the american license Version of Noir OST.
Funny thing is that teh odd store, such as Warehouse, has the odd anime lying around, they kinda labled Burst Angel (Bakuretsu tenchi or Bakuten) as 18+ and had it behind those black covers. I was able to find some obcure Animé too such as: Silent Service and Ghost Talker's Daydreams

Frankly its hard to find unless you go to some backwater place or order online to actully go in a store to find what you are looking for. Since the advent of the Internets, we can do some mild digging around and find what we are looking for.

Mind yeh, I still preffer a hard copy over anything digital, but I relinquish to digital if I have to.


I still hate mp3....so sucky, its not even industry standard any mroe, its ussualy AAC or m4a or m-peg or mp4
