So this was brought up by me going: "what the hell is a vegimite sandwich?" So, ya know, aside from answering my question, give us at least one food from you're country, a snack, a kind of candy, a drink or something, that you think other's wont have heard of, and explain to us what it is.

A Southern US food that comes to mind is grits. I'm not sure how widespread its knowledge is, but its a breakfast food similar to oatmeal and made from corn if I recall correctly.

Well not in Michigan but our family goes to Ohio a lot to visit relatives and they have a special kind of chili, the restaurant that has it is called Skyline and it is soooo good. I guess it's called Cincinnati-style.
At least I don't think other states have this, I know Michigan doesn't.

I've heard of the Cincy skyline Chili, although I haven't tried it yet. Not a big fan of the cheese though. :P

Well I have no idea what vegimite sandwhich is but in the Philippines we have exotic food, and I think the most popular is the Balut (boiled, salted, fermented, burried, etc... duck egg), nice and yummy.

For some reason...I could always eat that balut when I was a young child but the past few years I started getting turned off from that food just by looking at it lol. I guess I got kinda grossed out by the image of it as I grew up so don't get the wrong impression that I'm some kind of animal rights activists XD.

Lumpia is a Fillipino dish of awesomeness. Yes. Awesomeness. Think eggrolls but better.
10 September 2007, 2:11 AM
Ooh~ yes, lumpia~ ^^
There's lumpiang sariwa ("fresh lumpia"), and then there's lumpiang shanghai, which is the one I like better and also that one that Ms.Kim is pertaining too~!

Mämmi.
" Mämmi is a Finnish traditional Easter dessert, a malt porridge which is baked in an oven. It is made of water, malt and rye flour and is dark brown in appearance."
It tastes a lot better than what it looks like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A4mmi

Dunno how exotic it is, but the only food you can find in a touristy town like Monterey that's really out there is smoked octopus. You get it in tentacles, complete with suckers. It's like a large rubber stick, very chewy, not very tasty, different though.
