Well, I suppose I'll be on the optimistic side for now until I hear how the negotiations go with Japan considering they actually still hold the rights for Macross and haven't let Harmony Gold use any actual references to Macross for quite some time now. I'll quote this passage from ANN for some clarity:

Due to a copyright dispute that has Studio Nue and Big West, the creators and sponsor of Macross, facing against Harmony Gold's partner Tatsunoko Production, elements from Macross, the most popular of the three series, have not been used in recent and planned Robotech works onscreen.

I'm not sure what will happen from here but I want to think that something can get done between Warner and Studio Nue/Big West. Otherwise what would the mecha look like? Just Alpha fighters again?

I'm actually excited to see a Robotech live action movie. As long as the story, Special FX, and acting are good, or at least decent, I'm happy.

Okay Lynk, if the Macross story got the green light to be produced for the big screen, who would you have for the cast?

I wouldn't make a live-action movie out of Macross, but if I was "forced" to, I'd make a live-action series out of it. There's too much in Macross to fit into a movie or a trilogy of movies.

As for who plays who, no one famous to play any of the main roles...

Oh, and it'd be multi-lingual.

I think it is clear that either they will have a story outside the Macross saga, like Shadow Chronicles did (most likely), or redo the Macross story so much it will get around the legal issues (not too likely).

But I think it safe to say that the Macross property won't be affected by this...

I agree with Lynk Macross has been Bastardised too much already due to the attrocity that is Robotech... now they want to make a live action Robotech...
