I've noticed that we're enjoying a bit more activity in C3F lately, but I ask myself, what I can do to keep that kind of activity and to get more of it. I've left LucasForums and because of that released burden, my absolute attention is now on this place.

Of course I know that when I ask what I can do, a lot of you will say "more reviews/whatever" on the site. Since I have the stats at hand, I'd like to point out that the forum activity and site activity aren't really connected as much as you'd think. In fact, there's surprisingly little direct connection between the site and forum traffic which means that whatever I do to the site, won't really affect what happens to C3F...at all. So the point I'm trying to make is that I'm talking about C3F specifically, not TACC and its network site content.

So tell me what I, the administrator of this place, can do to make this place better.

One idea I have that I think is pretty good is to set up a gallery for people to post up their fanart and stuff in, it would be a nice way for them to show off their work.

I'll try to come up with some more ideas later also.

Yeah, I thought about a gallery mod for the forum but decided against it because I'm trying to avoid modifying the forum code or adding too many things to it as much as possible. I have only one modification on the forum at the moment and that's the one that displays news on the homepage of TACC from the new and updates forum. Other than that the rest of the modifications I've made are template modifications... which have disabled some of the forum features.

There are also security issues to consider and all that kind of jazz, but I will look into it to make the fan art/fiction forum better.

Ive looked at the stats for the site before and most of the traffic is to the forums i think =P

Those statistics aren't anywhere nears as detailed as what I see Chim. And yes, this thread is serious, so don't bother posting if you've got nothing good to add.

yeah I know, that's why I was asking, it will need a lot of testing.. maybe is better to just encourage more drawing at the fanart forum, sorta what genosuke is doing... it may not make the forum more active anyway :/

Yeah, actually Jeff and I are making all of these smilies ourselves using smilies from the old version of C3F and smilies from his forum as a reference.

We're doing it this way so all of the smilies look like they all belong in the set.

Actually, the smilies we had originally (all 12 of them) are the default vBulletin smilies.

Why not make a schedule for all anime conventions worldwide?

Like Mentioning that Ame-con this weekend and I'm out the door in an hour to go there?

Maybe a news ticker? it kind of coincides with the convention idea falcon had. Important events scroll by in a certain section of the board. Oh and by the way, thanks for bringing up my old oekaki idea mav!

This can be done right now. Make a thread about it, it doesn't need to be one thread for all anime-cons. Make a thread for a recent anime-con coming and we can all talk about what's going on in it. I've noticed that the member population here has no trouble posting messages, but seems afraid to make new threads.

The news thing I can do easily for the site, there's a service from Anime News Network.com that allows people to have their headlines added to their site and it updates live. I had that once for TACC but found it to be very... not needed... Having that same or similar kind of thing would only help to slow the load times and efficiency of the forum. This place is already bogged down with lots of images and hidden scripts running in the background.

I've looked through some mods for vB about the Oekaki and gallery thing, I gotta tell ya it's worrying me. I can't just add things to the forum, I have to think about how it'll affect the forum when I upgrade it and how reliable it is and the security issues, etc.

The thing about the fan art/fiction forum was that I had already thought about having all of these kinds of great features added to the forum to make it all streamline and interactive and all that kinda jazz on day one when I reopened the forum. The problem was that... there's a lot of problems with doing that kind of thing that I need to sort out, and every new mod I add to the forum creates another new security issue I have to worry about... bleah. Which is why I have the fan art/fiction forum the way it is...

I can understand that.

On the bright side we have OVER 9000!!--okay, only 62 smilies.

I've taken the quote+ feature off because it's not working for some reason. When I get it working again I'll put it back on.

Lynk is right hawk that would simply over complicate things... I was once told that the more complex a forum is the more likely it is to screw up.

Why not make the "log in" button at the top right corner of the screen say something like, "Jump in!" as if the C3F forums are a pool party?

And when you want to log out why not make the log out button say, "I'm outta here," or something.

A icon, but for quote option.

I have made image icons for "edit", "quote", "quote+" etc... I've just chosen not to use them and edited the forum template and made them text links instead.

Well, how about a skin selector? I won't mind using the BGC or Last Exile skin.
