Yes, after many years of being loyal to the gentle giant, Nintendo has finally gone completely mad with old age. With the announcement of their new portable device dubbed the "Nintendo DS" my faith in the company is almost completely gone. Instead of investing money on a brand new kick ass next generation console and reinventing themselves so they're not seen as a 'kiddy gamer' console company they're releasing an all new device to supposedly revolutionise gaming.
I'm sorry but two screens on a glorified game boy isn't gonna make me get all excited like you so hope, Nintendo. You've been so busy TELLING people what they want and haven't realised that Sony AND Microsoft have more support than Nintendo, both from the fans and the industry. People are losing faith in Nintendo, there last ditch effort to save the Game Cube (by lowering the price) worked in a way but Nintendo is still seen as a console for kids.
They have to realise that the kids playing in the old days have grown up and releasing mostly kiddy type games isn't gonna do it. Also this is a downward trend for Nintendo. Many gaming companies don't want to release their games on a Nintendo console believing it would be a waste of money and I don't blame them for thinking that.
Seriously the only thing I'm really waiting for now on the Game Cube is to get Metroid Prime 2. THE ONLY GAME I WANT. I now don't give a toss about the rest of what Nintendo has to offer. They have a powerful console, more powerful than the PS2 and yet they release games with crappier graphics than the PS2 even though supposedly it's easier to make games for the Cube than the PS2.
Sorry big N but I won't be buying your new 'DS' system and the only games I'll be investing money in will be Metroid Prime and Metroid Zero Mission. Unless you release a bloody powerful system that blows the competition away in the next year or two I don't see myself buying any more Nintendo hardware in the future. But that doesn't mean I'll be buying Sony or Microsoft either.... unless some nice anime games are released lol...
Bleah. Any questions?

Yes omg is that the real lynk talking?! he would condemn Nintendo :P
And look at you now, an owner of the DS and DS lite.
To explain, that post was posted when Nintendo had just announced the DS, the thing was that the only information they revealed at the time was that it was a called the DS, it had two screens and wasn't that much more powerful than the GBA. This was all long before we got any REAL information on the DS and long before any of us knew what Nintendo was coming up with in terms of Wii.
It was a time when the GameCube was failing extremely badly down here in Australia. And to add to that, at that time I had just gotten sick of videogames as a whole, not just Nintendo. I was about to quit being a video gamer because very little about videogames excited me anymore. Again, this is not me talking about JUST Nintendo, while I don't own any other brand of system, I do play the other systems regularly and like a lot of games for non-Nintendo systems.
So what was the problem I was having with that specific post? The fact that at that point in time Nintendo was a me-too company, they were going down the same path as Sony and Microsoft in terms of simply upgrading hardware, etc. And at that point in time, that's all I thought you could do with videogames so I was angry that Nintendo wasn't following that path.
However the months following, more information about the DS was released, touch screen, microphone, new ways of thinking, expanding the market, Nintendo's next-gen home console will follow this innovative trend. All of these things were revealed to me and it all caught my attention.
Thanks to the DS and Wii, I support Nintendo heavily in their efforts to shake up the industry with new ways of controlling videogames and trying to encourage developers into thinking outside of the box. I still play the traditional videogames, buttons and all, but now I get to touch, point, tilt and use all kinds of motions to play games too.
I was very angry at the way things were going in the videogame industry at that time. But thanks to Nintendo, who are building a new foundation with the DS and Wii, I became a gamer reborn.

sounds like to me that you just ate your own words there lynk.
Well that post was more than 3 years ago XD
Yeah, it was before Nintendo showed any signs of what DS and Wii would become, and besides, the entire gaming community was of the same opinion back then, we all ate our own words.
In the end I was highly critical of Nintendo because I wanted them to do well, and at the time, they weren't at all.

So.... you ate your own words...
Yes I did. I was a Nintendo fan back then, but I didn't support them as much as I do now thanks to the efforts with the DS and Wii.
Did you honestly see any of this coming back at that time? I mean, at the time I was right about what I said, I read it now and even though I feel ashamed about it now, it still felt like the right things to say back then.

I agree at that time Nintendo didnt have much going and were looking like they were slipping but in the last few years they have bounced back and are now giving sony and microsoft a run for their money

Congrats on the 3k mark XD
I still can't find any really 'must-have' games on the ds. =\ besides the final fantasy ones. Wish they'd have put battlefront or ghost recon on it, but no that goes to the psp. dammit...
