I'm debating if I should Zelda for GC or wait until I get Wii, which I have no clue when I'll get it, then purchase it. Would be Wii verison of the game be a major upgrade from the GC verison? No, I'm not getting both. :P
26 November 2006, 5:00 PM
Wii. It's better. From what I know at least.
26 November 2006, 5:10 PM
Well, I know Wii verison going to be better, but debating if it's that much better that it's worth waiting, because I don't want to purchase two games that aren't that different from each another. Not sure when I'm getting Wii, but know I'm getting money to purchase Zelda for GC next month, so debating with myself.

There are only two differences with the GCN and Wii version of Twilight Princess. TPWii can run in 16:9 while TPGCN is stuck in 4:3 and of course the controls. 16:9 rocks for anyone who has a widescreen TV... like me
From what I hear, the controls are very well done in the Wii version, the sword play, while it isn't 1:1, is brilliant according to reviewers. But the real worth is the ability to quickly lock onto and shoot at enemies with the projectile weapons using the Wiimote. A lot of reviewers have said that they've been able to do things that weren't possible with other games with this level of control thanks to the Wiimotes pointing feature. The menus are also very easy to navigate around thanks to the pointer. The spin attack and shield bash are mapped to the motions of the nunchaku and work very well.
The only downside people have found is the loss of free camera control which The Wind Waker had. But this isn't too bad because it's going back to the way Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask was in that respect. Plus the camera is intelligent enough that you don't really need it, plus the Z targetting helps when you want to center the camera anywayz. Of course, I still like having the free camera option available so, personally, I'll miss it in the Wii version. Also note that Z-target and Defend are mapped to the same button, as opposed to the GCN version which has L-target and R is used for the shield.
In the end, I'm getting BOTH Wii and GCN versions

I'll most likey get the GCN version and when/if I get a Wii that version as well.
If this question was posted else where, you mostly get flamed or whatever

So, outside the controls and screen, there's no glaring difference between the games? If so, they I think I'm just going to get GC since I don't want to want unti I purchase a Wii, which should be by the release date of Smash Brothers the latest. I don't have a wide screen TV and I'm just going to have to miss out on the ideal controls. I heard control on the horse is excellent. Still remember how troublesome it was in TOoT while riding the house and aiming at the ghost while casing them.
26 November 2006, 8:19 PM
The reason there is a GCN version is because this is still a GCN game. The Wii version is just a GCN game with Wii controls.
As for us Australians, if you haven't preordered TPGCN now then you're gonna have a hell of a time trying to get it. There is only ONE shipment coming to Australia and it's exclusive to EB Games. I've already got my copy of TPGCN preordered.

so is the Wii version at any rate sharper clearer? It's a given fact that a newer gen console is going to have a little more power behind it then the previous gen. but with the screen ratio aside, im wondering how graphically its different ^^
27 November 2006, 12:40 AM
Nope, it's a straight up GCN port, like I said, there are ONLY differences, the widescreen capability and the Wiimote + Nunchaku usage. And THAT is it.

ah, so whatusayin Lynk: that regardless of which muffins or cookies taste better, they're still pasties?
*cough* Err. I mean...
im surprised that havent done anything to the engine to improve it. usualy you see that sort of thing *shrug* Guess that is just showing what the Wii can do with its backwards compatibilities.
Ah! Here's a good one, if the Wii can play GCN games, why not try and pop in the GCN version of TP in the Wii and see how it plays?
27 November 2006, 8:56 AM
Oh yeah, which reminds me there are actually THREE differences with TPGCN and TPWii lol.
TPWii Link uses his sword in his right hand, while TPGCN Link uses his left hand. To get this result, the entire game has been mirrored for the TPWii version.
But anywayz, if they changed the engine to improve it in any way then they would end up redoing the entire game to get the most out of the console which would cost a lot of money and take a lot of time... which is pretty pointless at this point seeing as Twilight Princess at Wii launch is a great thing to have.

I have it for Wii, and it rocks. The controls are very easy to use I think, and it's just a very fun and so far addictive game.
27 November 2006, 5:08 PM
I kinda forgot about it being on the GCN XD
In that case i mite buy it for the GCN =P
Thanks for the info about the differences =)
Anyway if i do buy TP it will be one of the first things i buy for myself since months and months and months ago XD

It depends on whether I get a Wii for Christmas or not.
If not, then I'll get it for GC, and then when I do finally get a Wii, I'll get it for that.
If I do get a Wii for Christmas, then I'll get it for the Wii.

Oh yeah, one more thing, While TPWii allows you to carry 4 items (D-Pad left, right down and the B button), TPGCN only allows you to carry 2 items (X and Y).

Does that show how much the Wii sold then?
Wii for gameplay/interaction/more healthy others for graphics XD
Who here cares more about gameplay than gfx?

Adding another difference to the list LF made. The Wii version has a Wii controller calibration tool. Which actually works better than the one the Wii console comes with. I'm really surprised Nintendo didn't use the Zelda Wii-mote calibration in the console.
15 December 2006, 8:45 AM
It's because different games require different calibration settings because they have different controls for each game...

The Zelda calibration offers adjustments that would work with any game which the Wii one doesn't offer. Wii one is extremely limited.

Look at number 9 with the picture and tell me that wouldn't help all games.
18 December 2006, 9:09 AM
I meant that each game would require its individual settings, say you like a particular setting on Zelda to be 3 while on another game you find the same setting to be best at 4... get it now?
Now onto my impressions on the two versions of TP...
I've finished the Wii version, I've played through a decent amount of the GCN version.
The controls for the Wii version win, simply because it's more fun, and for me at least, more precise. I have heard that some people have trouble with it, but I find that aiming with the Wiimote is a lot more responsive and faster than the GCN version.
Menus are far quicker to navigate, having 4 item slots instead of 2 also saves time and if you don't want to see the fairy onscreen all the time then don't point the Wiimote at the screen all the time.
The lack of free camera controls doesn't matter for the Wii version, I played the Wii version first and then went to the GCN version and never felt the need to use the free camera at all.
Widescreen is so worth it if you have it, the HUD doesn't get in the way at all but the GCN versions HUD is so damn annoying, especially when you have the map up, guh.
Shaking or swinging the Wiimote for sword slashes is much for fun than tapping the B button all the time, plus it's not as tiring or stupid as people think, it's not 1:1 but it'd be stupid if it was for this particular game. It's very accurate, I've always found my mark when slashing the Wiimote/sword and furthermore, the Spin Attack is SO much better with the Wii version. The GCN version of the spin attack is outdated, slow and most of the time totally frustrating to use. The controls are far more responsive on the Wii version, not the other way around.
And of course, obviously, fishing rocks for the Wii version.
Oh and one final note, having the Wiimote and Nunchaku being separate in your hands is so damn comfortable, you're not tied down and you can pretty much sit and have your hands anywhere you like when you play.

Obviously the interactivity and unique controls of the Wii are a good thing for TP =P

A Hawk is trying to kill me
Other then that so far much better then Wind Waker
