I don't plan to purchase a PS3 at least to the summer, when Makai Kingdom slated to be released for the system. Though, won't be too shocked if reports come out with flaws with the system.

Not a fan of the price, but it's not as ridiculous as people make it out to be, especially considering what type of hardware you're getting.

Let me ask you this Eva... do you have any bills to pay and HAVE to buy any items needed for every day living on a regular basis and more? People may have jobs, it doesn't mean that all of the money they earn is saved and goes towards novelty items like these. Not to mention the fact that it's a highend product that needs OTHER highend products to actually be worth it for all the features it's boasting.

That thing gets so damn hot I'm surprised that it needed to be modded to cook stuff! XD
24 November 2006, 9:28 AM
Actually the PS3 shell is designed pretty well, all of the heat is radiated out through the bottom, sides and back while the top and front are kept cool. This is mostly for safety than anything else cause from what I hear the heat that is radiated from the bottom and sides is pretty damn hot... don't put anything flamable next to your PS3.

@ Rebel: Maybe you could start your own bar and grill That'd rock. I have some bills, but not many. Everyone usually have things they need to buy items to live on a regular basis. Everything not consider needed, would be a novelty item, that includes the other two consoles systems. You tend to need other products to boast the overall experience for all thee consoles, so not quite sure why people complain so much about the price, but still plan or did purchase one of the other consoles.

I read somewhere about a guy who made eggs on the xbox 360's heat sink.
Looks like the thing can generate enough heat for boil water, I wanna see a modder do a heat exchanger and add a little turbine so you can have a little electric generator at home XD

@ Eva: Maybe you should live on your own, pay for all the bills and living expenses yourself and see how much money it costs. Better yet, get a wife and kids and see how much money you have left for a PS3.
What I'm trying to say Eva is that what you said before was very short sighted.
@ Mav: Yes, it should be mentioned that the Xbox360 gets HOTTER than the PS3 does. And the funny thing is that the PS3 has its powerbrick inside the system instead of out. The reason the 360 gets hotters is cause it's using old technology which is inefficient. Basically it's an american gas guzzler... XD The PS3 on the other hand has cell which runs pretty cool.

What I'm trying to say Eva is that what you said before was very short sighted. You underestimate how much money most people make.
What I said wasn't very short sighted as you said. If it was, then PS3 won't be sold out. People bought the product, like the would with any other console. It's not expensive as people, who usually don't have the money, like to make it out to be.
For what you said, you can say that any person if they want to buy a TV or other products not needed to live. That would include the Wii and X-box 360.
Obviously, you can't purchase a PS3, Wii or 360 if you living on your own and making minimum. While a lot of people are like that, then there's people with wives and children who don't work at McDonalds and making minimum wage. People do work at jobs that pay well, so they can handle all their bills and such and have money for themselves to do what they like with.

Sold out sounds nice but you have to look at the numbers in total.
How many PS3`s have been available for purchase in the US? I´ve heard there were only 80.000 for sale in Japan, that´s quite a joke cause the old Nintendo DS sold more than 113.000 units in the last week (yes, just one week) before the PS3-Release.
Due to the very limited availability of the PS3 the "sold out" was predictable.
26 November 2006, 11:02 AM
I dont think ill buy a ps3 anytime soon, or at least anytime with in the next 2 years. unless they actually make a remake of FFVII. I think it's going to be too bugged just like when xbox first released
didnt it take like a year before microsoft got that fixed?
26 November 2006, 1:11 PM
Eva, the PS3 is sold out because the number of units Sony has is TINY, in fact Sony has launched the PS3 in two countries, the US and Japan. Nintendo has launched Wii in one country, the US. And Nintendo has sold 3 times more Wii's than the PS3. The reason for this is because demand for the two consoles is pretty much even, but Nintendo was able to make more units than Sony. MUCH more units, and by the end of the year when Sony has said they will product 1 million PS3's, which is doubtful, Nintendo will have 4 million Wii's... and don't forget, Wii is sold out too and the general opinion of people who buy it who are not hardcore gamers is that it's better value. You get the console and you get Wii Sports.
Sold out? You've just been suckered in by a very old marketting technique. Also take into account that everyone who is that interested in an electronic device like this will be the first ones to buy it. The PS3 targets techheads and those who have pretty much dedicated themselves to electronics and related products. Launch lines for the PS3 were filled with people who matched this demographic. Also take into account that these people knew about the PS3 for years and had time to prepare. Not many average joes in that crowd with a wife and two kids with bills to pay and having to take little johnny to the doctor tomorrow morning.
I underestimate how much money people make? No I don't, I just take into account the fact that there is more to this world than videogames and anime.

Another question is do these general buyers have the patience for the price of the PS3 to drop down or do they actually NEED it? Like Rebel said if they're actually really desperate for it then they're going to get it no matter what the price is, selling off they're old game consoles (be it Nintendo Gamecube, PS2 or Xbox) and games is a start to get some money, then there's ebay (XD) for them to sell off things they don't need anymore seeing how online shopping and auctioning has increased a lot and let's not forget credit cards here.
When the PS2 was originally released in Australia, the price of it was nearly close to $1000 already ($749 people) and I was suckered into wanting one the day it came out, but up to this day I've never bothered getting one even when I had eventually saved up enough money to get it. By that time my interest in videogames had began to wane already and then all the talks of the new generation consoles started and that's when the competition and rivalries between Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft went to an all time high (let's not forget all the arguments between the fanboys as well) making me lose interest in videogames completely.
I tried to get back into videogames when my older sister got an Xbox but that didn't even last for a year and it didn't even spark up any interest. Then the Xbox got traded in for a Nintendo Gamecube and I only played it ONCE and that was it. Wasn't interested in it or the games it had. It's also funny that my younger brother and sister (8 and 9 years old) don't even bother with the Gamecube anymore when originally they were so excited to see the console and played Mario Party for days but now it's sitting in the living room collecting dust. Heck even when my older sister bought the Donkey Konga game for them they didn't even bother playing it that much.
So why all this rant? Well to me I see there's far better things to buy than the PS3, Wii or Xbox360. The only reasons I find that are necessary to get a PS3 are reasons like Rebel's who wants to get a CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, PS1, PS2 etc all in one console and doesn't have those things already. The Wii seems to send off a message that you need friends who come over often to fully enjoy the games. Most of my friends live too far away from me to come over a lot so it's pointless for me to get it and the fact that my younger brother and sister aren't even interested in games anymore is more reason I'd be wasting my money on it. I'm not even going to bother with the Xbox360 seeing how little I played with the original Xbox.
In closing, I really think if you buy any of these consoles for specific reasons like they have a feature that you really need and you'll use it often then you've spent your money well. If you're buying it just for the sake of boasting to your friends and satisfaction of just owning so and so console then you've probably been suckered into the marketing gimmick lol.

Not sure why you felt the need to add "world more than anime and video game" when I was refer to people buying entertainment, which people do when go out to a sport event or merely purchasing a T.V., which all serve the purpose of entertainment, which would not be needed. If you can point out if I said that in my post or even implied world not more than anime and video games, then please do.
People can afford the console, which would be my point. If you took into account there was more to world than video games and anime, then you would know that people will buy what they want for entertainment purpose, if they have the money, which most people do.
Wii meeting the demand while PS3 not meeting the demand. Though, not sure how you can determine the demand for the console are even just because the Wii sold three times more than PS3? All I can determine from that would be what I said. Nintendo meeting it's demand for it's product. How you could to conclusion that the demand for both products are the same would be unknown to me. Since there's more Wii out, I mean a lot more Wii out than PS3, it's not shocking it sold out, like you said it's not shocking PS3 sold out since there wasn't that many, the same applies to Wii selling three times more.
The Wii selling for 250? The PS3 would be selling 700? Not sure on the figures, but if you sell 4 Wii in a store, that would be 1000, if you sold 2 PS3, then that would 1400. If there's more Wii sold, it's not shocking or a good indication which console in more demand. You can demand people want to Wii by that, but you can determine the demand for the Wii more or even with PS3 by sell figures alone at the moment.
In turn, you fought that Wii selling three times more mean the demand for both consoles are the same? I haven't been "sucked" as you put it. I'm quite aware of quanity of PS3 that were out on the market. I won't expect normal people to wait outside for the release for the PS3 or the Wii either. That point would be moot. Though, you likely want to address the money issue at which case we're going to disagree.
Just in case, not trying to offend, Lynk. Just trying to have a debate since I haven't had one here in a long time. If you find what I'm saying insulting by any chance, then I apologize. If I came off rude, I didn't mean to do it. Just enjoying the discussion.

I said that because we're talking about this in a videogame section within an anime forum, seemed only fitting to mention something that we're all interested in seeing as we're here. And yes, people are willing to spend big on entertainment, but people have limits and there are quite a few people who have quite a lot more limits, that's what I was trying to point out.

Okay, think about it this way, the PS2s success came from its value, but this didn't occur until well into th PS2s lifespan when it settled into a very nice price median and had plenty of good games to offer. The PS2's success didn't just occur right off the bat, it took time and price cuts and for people to see that this product was worth buying. It didn't just occur over night like magic, everyone just wanted it and didn't care what it cost.

You misunderstand, I was trying to point out how pointless it was for you to mention how the PS3 had sold out. Like Rebel, darky and I have said, those who really want a console at launch will do anything to get it at launch, but the real market, the real MAJORITY waits and bides their time to see if the product they're interested in is WORTH their money. I was also trying to point out that I couldn't believe that you saw the PS3 selling out as such a big thing.
PS3 at this point is not worth it, but I have never suggested that it won't be worth any price. When the price lowers considerably, it'll be worth it and people will want to buy it. To clarify, this isn't my opinion alone, this seems to be the general opinion of every casual gamer I know, hardcore PlayStation fans on the other hand don't care if it costs a million bucks, even if they don't have the money to buy it.
