That What I normally use, but Lynk is right old fuss pot on quailty control, out of ten or so I submitted, only one gone up.... The Genshiken one

Make sure white isn't set as you background colour in Photoshop or PSP. The majority of the banner has red in it, use a similar dark red as the background colour for when you cut the original background away from the image . Then cut the image from the red background and paste it onto the random banner.png. Its easier to clean the red outline (if any) than white, and the image blends together better. Thats how I do it anyway.

I put the image on the layer above the banner image then filled it using anti alias so it blended into to the backing XD
Didnt work to well on that pic because the hair becomes to short near the ends XD
It looks smoother if i blur it a bit but i wasnt gonna do that

On the actual image I use four to five layers and a mix of the eraser and pencil tools on the layers to blend it in. I'll then fine tune the image layer before flattening it. Takes a while, but it does the trick

Plus, it's not just about the quality of the image editing, it's about how the picture flows with the rest of the design. If it doesn't, it's not gonna go up.

I like the FMP one, but it'd be better if it was zoomed in more so it filled out more of the banner horizontally. Don't be afraid to chop of the tops of heads and hands, it's an old film technique...

So more horizontal and less vertical is the better fromat. Come to think of it the GITS one is a bit to straight up and down.

I like Molemans but he make a slight Boo-boo with it, same with Damatee, but I don't think any of those three have what it takes in Vaver -Voom to make Lynks cut

You're right, they don't.

They're not very dynamic, and I prefer group pics. To add to the problem, they all seem a little too vertical...

I have let pics of single characters through, but they were a lot more dynamic. And I have let pics that are more vertical than they are horizontal, but they were coming from the far left into the picture frame which looks a lot more natural than the character just standing there in the middle.

In the end, the more dynamic the pic, the better.

well i know its hard, and the colors(colours) would have to be messed with (unless kyub's says no). but the whole image just tickles me since she orignaly posted it

Astroboy - This one's done out of pity for the most part... it seemed like hawk was gonna commit suicide or something...
Dirty Pair - It's too blurry, but it's an old anime... though I'm sure a better pic could probably be found.
Haruhi - It's going up, but it does look a little too spaced out... not very dynamic, you lose the sense of depth when you cut out the characters like that.
WitchBlade - Woot.


@ Hawk: I'd put up the FMP! one if you made a more horizontal version of it.
