What impresses me the most is that all of her soundtracks are totally diferent! You can't compare Escaflowne with Macross and/or Cowboy Bebop and/or GITS! The style is way diferent!

I've finally seen episode 16 of 2nd GIG... the one that had Rebel pretty pissed about supposed anti-US sentiment... all I can say after seeing that episode, I stand by what I said earlier in the thread. I saw absolutly nothing wrong with it, in fact I had forgotten that it was ep16 I was meant to watch out for until the end of the episode.

But now that I've seen this episode, if you wanna talk about it with me to get a non-US citizen's view on all of this, I'm willing to talk.

that kinda remembers me of the gundam seed destiny movie, that happens in brazil. It's interesting to see mobile suits in the brazillian army XD bohaha! And fun to have a story played in SÃ£o Paulo.

I dont think there's any way I can respond to this without saying to reread my original post on the subject and that I dont feel I was "pretty pissed" but "moderatly annoyed". As you once told me about your culture being "different" from mine, and hence I dont understand it. You need to know that getting your country slammed by places you've never been and countries you cant pronounce every day of the week gets old, fast, and thats all I was saying.

Australia is critisised a lot by countries like Indonesia, etc... we get as good as you get. But your country is in a position of power and a lot of focus is in your direction, both positive and negative. Don't forget that there are positive things being said about your country too along with the negative.

In the case with SAC, they needed a reason for certain events to take place and they couldn't do it without the most powerful country of this generation to have a big part in it. They needed to create a world where people have suffered and there is much unrest, what better way to do that? You wouldn't get the same results if it were any other country. I'm sure if the Soviet Empire was still going strong it would've been them instead of an "American Empire" in SAC.

Also remember that many animes have dealt with corruption of societies and I know that you know that a lot of animes have set a scene where Japan has become corrupted and is decaying in a pit of human misery...

Again, I bring up Battle Royale 2 which take the piss out of America more, but America didnt complain about that... well not that I know of!

And depending on what reasons your refrencing, americans have just as many reasons to have anti-japanese sentiment. That dosent make it right or justified. Japan pulled a good move in WWII, we pulled a bigger stick to end it. We took away Japan's emperor, in turn set Japan up as an economic power. In return, Japan has purched and still controls a number of American companies and if they wanted, could strip the US of the ability to buy/obtain many well-used computer and electronic products. Of course in return Japan would likly be in a militarily fragile position.

Yes there are plenty of reasons for not liking each other, but acting on any of them would be stupid and petty.

Yes, but the positive is usually said by Americans, and is dismissed by the world as ignorant patriotisim. We wouldnt have Germans of all people comparing Bush to Hitler if the world thought anything good came out of the US. Both the fact that it's set in the future, the economic power that is China and India, I would argue that there are at least half a dozen countries, the US included(EU, China, US, India...) that would have worked just as well. But thats really off the point. As is sorta pointed out below, the US idea partly plays off any remaining fears and memories of the atomic bombings.

yes, and just like the bad joke where you yourself are the butt of it, it's always acceptable to paoke at your own country. It's not always aceptable to poke at other people's countries just because they're "big" and "there".

It's more the point that ALOT of people, from normal people who watch too much or too little TV to raving conspiracy theorists all end with "The American Empire" blah blah. It's not that offensive, and that wasnt even my point. my point was that it's tiring seeing the same thing over and over again. I never said I was offended to my memory, I said I was annoyed that people cant get a new scapegoat for a change. Though I admit FMP did use the Soviet Union.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but are you blind and deaf? Holy crap, this is ridiculous, your country isn't the only one that gets beat up on, you just think it is. My country gets plenty of shit too, the UK gets plenty of shit, A LOT of countries get plenty of shit said about them. If you want to cry about it, go ahead, but you have to realise one thing here, the whole world isn't against you.

You only notice the things that are related to the US for the most part and seem to have missed everything else about other countries. Remember there is a world out there and they're being criticised just as much as the US is and I'm sure the majority of people around the world have more to bitch about their own country than they do with the US. For instance, I criticise my own government more than I do the US. On the foreign front, I criticise China and India A HELL OF A LOT MORE than I do the US and a lot of people I know are the same way.

Get over it. I'm sorry but that's really the only way I can put it. You're not the scapegoat or sacrificial lamb; you're just another country with various problems that people have an opinion on. But you're not the only one getting beat up on. Look around at the rest of the world for once, jeez.

Just remember there are positive things being said about the US, and no it's not just US citizens who say it, I know a lot of Australians who say nice things about your country, if you don't believe me, then fine.
