The problem is Halflife 2's levels are so massive that they have to be loaded like that, Unfortunatly Valve never got round that problem, although some developers came up with the cleaver idea of hiding it behind a cut scene, eg Timesplitters 3... why do you think there are cut scenes at regular intervals
