I avoid Blue Gender the series at all cost, too. 
I have watched a lot of anime movies, most of which can be said to be extended episodes. I have watched bad anime movies like the first CCS movie, which was an extended episode, a bad one. I have also watched good anime movies like the second CCS movie, which conclude the series and also gives you a heavy dose of cuteness with Sakura and Syaoran.
Though, in the end, I have not found any anime movie to be all that bad. The first CCS movie was not all that interesting, but wasn't diverting from the plot or change the actual characters themselves. It was just very uninteresting extended episode of the series.
Probably one of the anime movie that finished up the series on a bad note would be FMA. I was not too keen on the ending to FMA series with that movie. I don't know, but it felt very unfilled after I completed the series. I was expecting much more after the series was such a trip, so I wasn't too happy on how it ended at all.
