The GameCube sells just as badly here, the point was that Nintendo makes its profit from its long list of franchises no matter what the system, so despite the lack of GCN sales, the GCN still sells enough games to survive. You should also remember that the GameCube was extremely cheap to manufacter. Also you can't compare Nintendo to Sega in this case, Sega had very different issues that brought it down.
As for the Revolution, Nintendo has quite a lot of third party support, not all, but most, plus it has indie developer support from NIBRIS and Crossbeam, etc who are making games exclusively for the NRV.
