It's a great anime in so many ways, but the only thing people know about Macross is Robotech. The reason isn't because people don't like Macross. I'm sure if they were actually aware of the series, they'd end up liking it. The problem is that most people are only aware of Robotech and haven't even heard of Macross as a stand alone anime series in the first place.Wait...so you agree with me or disagree...am I missing something...? I mean, I'm not bashing mainstream anime. I'm just saying that animes like Astro Boy and Tetsujin 28 seem to be forgottned by some (or something) people. There was this one guy who made fun of Astro Boy and said "This is were anime came from?! Hahaha!"
It is a shame that more people don't acknowledge great works like Tesujin 28 and Macross, but this kind of battle of the mainstream vs the niche goes on with pretty much everything. If all you're doing is looking for acknowledge for a niche anime in a mainstream environment, you're not going to find much success.
In this forum, we have a lot of Bubblegum Crisis fans... and Bubblegum Crisis is not a mainstream anime. I started a website long ago that got a bunch of people together who all had the same interest and we realised there are more of us than we actually thought.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh or something, it's just that I don't want someone bashing on classical animes like Tetsujin 28 or something.
