I think the throwbacks to SDF Macross are the most enjoyable parts of Frontier... which isn't necessarily a good thing because the rest seems to generic anime-ish stuff... it doesn't feel very Macross-ey... to me. Hopefully the series will pick up though. There are good things about it, but a lot of very *yawn* it's been done things as well.

EDIT: Just watched ep4... it's getting better. I still feel that it's walking a very fine line though, some things about it make me facepalm, but other things about it that are genuinely good.

I think it is a good series so far and that my critical nature towards things I like is what makes me doubt it... but I have good reasons for being so critical so

It's better to be critical of the series then watch it turn out to be really good rather than being hyped about it and then getting disappointed when it doesn't hold up in the end... and so many anime series are like that where they start out wonderfully then simply fizzle out and you get a pretty weak ending.
