Seeing as how I was an anime fan before there really was a US industry, I can say that I certainly like it better with it being in place. Its not perfect by any means but having money go into anime allows for more and hopefully better quality anime to be produced.
And actually now is probably a good time to review this because we could be (maybe) on the verge of another upswing in the US anime industry. If the live action US movies currently being produced turn out any good at all, that'll only spur more involvement from more big spenders. This may or may not be a good thing. But more money put in the right places could make anime more widespread and available than it currently already is... which is honestly hard to imagine but it is one possibility.
