Quote:I'm deeply impressed and gratified that the phrase "takes full advantage of the capabilities of the Wii" that I'd seen in so many reviews not only applies, but appears to be completely true. The graphics are impressive (at least on a normal TV...it literally feels like I'm watching Mario run around on a tennis ball suspended inside of the screen) and the controls are intuitive and responsive...not to mention that the game design is near-perfect. And to put this into perspective, I don't tend to like Mario games, either, so I'm biased in the opposite direction...it really is worth the purchase cost of a Wii. (imo)Exactly how I feel, I didn't really like Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine, I've only ever liked the older 2D Mario games which are classics now, but Galaxy blew me away. It really is that good and gets better as you play it, and nothing ever feels repetitive about it because as you progress it just gets crazier and crazier. I haven't had this kind of fun in a videogame in a long time and the last time I remember having this kind of fun was when I was a kid playing through Yoshi's Island on my SNES. Absolutely love the gameplay, you can pick it up and do amazing things with it instantly.
And YES, the graphics absolutely rock. I have a widescreen CRT and run my games at 480p (for those of you who don't know, yes you can get crt tvs that run progressive scan) and it looks smooth and ultra sexy... which is totally unlike the screenshots you see on the net which show all the jaggies, ugh. Screenshots don't do the any justice, it really has to be played to be appreciated and those who doubt Wii's capability should take a look. The detail in the textures in that game are brilliant. There was one moment when I just stopped for a moment and said "holy crap, that actually DOES look like glazed porcelain i'm standing on."

Otherwise if you're just the casual pokemon player, then no... it's not.
