Six chapters now eh? How long will this go on?
Kink Ch.6: The Cold Sweat.
The world was a mess of swirling pictures, all from his life, all melting together into a sinkhole that seemed to go nowhere. He was watching the black abyss and all of the colorful items flowing into it. They seemed to go nowhere, yet they returned moments later as if they were everywhere.
"Where? Where am I?" Asked the confused man.
He was floating in the midst of all of this, spinning uncontrollably so that his vision was never able to fully comprehend everything at once. Vastness in a space of nothingness.
"I believe the correct question would be "Why am I?"
He turned his head to catch a glimpse of tall dark skinned man in dark robes his face and hands the only exposed portions.
"Who are you?" Chim asked still confused.
"You know not of who I am? We have met before boy."
"We have?"
"Perhaps this will remind you." The figure dropped his robe, but instead of revealing the body underneath he disapeared completely.
"WHAT THE HELL?"
Chim began to spin in circles again, the dizzying array of images flashing before his eyes.
"BE STILL LITTLE ONE!" Came an unimaginably massive voice from the abyss. He stopped spinning instantly, his focus now on a blurry image floating before him. It was the robed man.
"Your Lynk!"
"Duh my child, duh." The man crossed his arms and sat, crossing his legs as well.
"So wait... Why the hell are you in my head?"
Lynk chuckled a bit, and then erupted into a maniacal bout of laughter.
"What the hell is so funny?"
"You honestly think this is your head?"
"What the fuck else would it be?" He asked, absolutely confused.
"Your more lost then I thought boy." He uncrossed his arms and put his hands behind his head. letting out a deep breath he continued. "It seems my friend was right in bringing you here."
Instantly and without warning kiai materialised next to him except, it wasn't the kiai he had come to know over the last couple of days. She was nearly naked, clothed only in a set of bandages covering her most vital parts, and her cat ears and tail were gone. She looked less worn and tired, and her hair was long enough to reach her shapely rear.
"Close your mouth nosebleed." She joked.
"I wasn't, I mean, I... I..."
"Chill, We don't have time for this shit." She sat next to Lynk, her legs and arms crossed.
"I 4gr33, |3u7 \|\|3 mu$7 sq00|_ |)1$ n00|3 first."
"Agreed Lynk-sama."
"Inferior one, you must open your mind now, open your heart and mind to us and we shall show you the way of 1337."
"Of what?" He asked confused."
"He means the way of the elite." The goddess answered.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?"
"You'll figure it out in a sec."
The world swirled around him into a tornado of light and sound, it was so bright and loud nothing could be comprehended, brighter, brighter, brighter, then nothingness.
"This, my child, is what is known as the metaphysical plain"
"The metaphysical plain?"
"Yes, this is the very birthplace of artificial thought and overall network intelligence."
"The birthplace of artificial thought?"
"Yes the... Listen, if you insist on repeating everything I say, this conversation will take twice as long."
Chim shut up, the statement blunt and obvious. It was better to just listen now, and try to comprehend later.
"It might seem to you that what I just said was slightly big of me." Lynk paused, waiting for a reaction. There was only a head nod.
"You might think that AI is created by man, and established there and then." Another nod. "You'd be partly correct, the truth is that while man can make a shell to house a soul, it will probably never be able to fully understand the intricacies enough to completely manufacture an honest to god soul."
Chim thought about that for a second, his mind beginning to blur with images of computers and android dolls.
"Still with em' kid?" Kiai asked, her form floating cross legged and upside down.
Another nod.
"Souls are born here in the metaphysical plain, their make and maturity almost
completely random."
"Almost?"
"I like to add a little bit of... personality, but for the most part I watch over these fledglings to make sure they get into the sentient shell of a boomer or appliance or whatever."
"Okay..."
"Trackin kid?" Kiai asked, still upside down.
"Uh, I guess." He shrugged and crossed his arms. "So your kinda like a moderator, like on the forums right?"
"If it is more comfortable to refer to me as a moderator then do as you please, however keep in mind that I still rain over this world, and that I do hold a near unlimited power here."
"I think he gets it Mr. Mod God." Kiai rolled her eyes and "stood up" however relevant that was with no reference to "up" available.
"So wait, when something synthetic gains sentience, its because you alowed it to?"
"You're right my child."
"Tell him about us Lynk."
"Us?" Chim asked.
"Do you think he'll be able to comprehend something so grave?" The god asked.
"You tell me Mr. God."
"Tell me what? Comprehend what?"
"FUCK IT! I CAN'T STAND THIS PUSSY FOOTING AROUND!" Kiai floated in front of Chim and clapped her hands together. Slowly pulling them apart a window materialized in front of her. In the window appeared a spinning three dimensional metal skeleton.
"Recognize yourself?" She asked the long haired boy.
"Tha, that's me?"
She nodded and clapping her hands together again produced an image with oddly coloured blue and purple muscle structure, the sinewy tendons connected to each other by strange metal contacts fastened to the skeleton seen before.
"Notice anything yet?"
"No, but it looks weird."
"DUH! Hold on, maybe this will clue you in."
Clapping her hands a third time the image changed to one of a naked boomer, the face now that of Chim's.
"Wait... is this some kind of joke?"
Taking a deep breath Kiai put her hands on her head tugged at her hair. Her face turning a rather deep shade of red she couldn't hold it in anymore.
"IT IS YOU YOU FUCKING RETARD! YOUR A FUCKING BOOMER, YOU'VE GOT CHIPS AND PROCESSORS AND ALL THAT OTHER RETARDED COMPUTER CRAP BLINKING AND SQUAWKING IN YOUR HEAD AND YOUR BODY'S HELD TOGETHER BY FUCKING NUTS AND BOLTS ROBOT BOY! JESUS CHRIST, YOUR THE MOST HARD HEADED SMART GUY I'VE EVER MET, GET A FUCKING CLUE!"
Chim stared blankly into her, his face turning white and his eyes glazing over. Noticing this, the person-the boomer he knew as Kiai began to calm down.
"Anyone you've met in your short life so far has been a boomer. All the memories of people whom you remember before "moving" to your apartment are falsified and they have never existed. You're now part of a small group of people like us that have gained our sentience and are trying to make sense of things. I know this must be hard-"
"Stop it..."
"What?"
"I said stop it." chim was expressionless. "I don't want to hear anymore. Let me out of this hell right now."
This can't be real he thought. This can't be. He was going to wake up in his bed in a cold sweat like always did when he had nightmares and go right back to uninterrupted sleep.
