Well think about it this way, you have a movie about giant transforming robots from space coming to earth. Now think about that for a moment... seems pretty ridiculous doesn't it when you really do think about it. This is why orchestrated music has been used so well in movies like this. When you have a science fiction movie, it's best to use orchestrated music for those big action scenes and pivotal moments because the mass audience can appreciate it a lot more. Orchestrated music can produce a stronger emotional response compared to rock music when it comes to movies.
The problem with rock tracks is that it's more likely that a large part of that audience won't like the kind of music chosen and it'll take away from their viewing experience. Yeah, it's an action movie, but some of the best action movies used orchestrated music over the popular music of the time. Just look at Star Wars.
