Now's a good time to watch the original series. Just note, it was made in 1982 and is a TV show, the animation is going to be very primitive and isn't going to be anywhere near as amazing as Plus. To add to that, you have that good ol' 80s cheesiness to it, but it's a classic. Once you start, you should not stop, continue on and then suddenly everything will just click together so well and you'll cry for more by the end... rwar.

Haven't managed to get the original series yet, but I did get Macross Zero, that was was excellnet. Loved the story, and the animation was amazing especially the aerial scenes. Can't wait for more.

On the Transformers note, It looks like Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker from the original series were based on Valkyries as well
