There is just a tad more to that particular case then you probably realize.

The old lady who spilled the coffee while removing the lid to add the usual things, ended up with third degree burns in the regions of the groin, inner thigh, and buttocks. Plus there are certain other factors. Such as she was willing to settle out of court for a rather small sum, but McDonald's decided to go to court with it.
