Quote:Freedom Project is a 7 part Japanese OVA animation series commissioned by Nissin Cup Noodles for their thirty fifth anniversary, with Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira and Steamboy fame as the character and mecha designer. Publicity for the series began in early April 2006, with huge banners and posters featuring concept sketches of the lead character Takeru and his vehicle lining Tokyo`s busiest train stations like Shibuya and Shinjuku.

The director of Freedom Project is Shuhei Morita, creator of the award winning animation short Kakurenbo. The theme song for the series "This is Love", is performed by Utada Hikaru.

The largely successful publicity campaign for Freedom Project was very well recieved by fans of katsuhiro Otomo and animation fans in Japan, who saw him returning to his strengths of designing stylish mecha and memorable characters.

Freedom Previsited, a special limited edition dvd released on 27 October 2006, features a 6 minute prologue of Freedom as well as various staff interviews was quickly snapped up by eager fans upon release, many by preorders made through online websites. The dvd is now officially soldout.

"Freedom 1", the first episode from the series was released on November 24, 2006.

Sunrise is the official production company behind Freedom Project, and the animation team in charge is Freedom Committee. Official video releases by Bandai Visual.
