I'm finding it hard to believe the two links posted. But this sort of things has happened because it has happened to IGN where their strap broke and there are a couple of old videos from E3 of people accidentally letting go of the Wiimote who didn't have their straps on.
The thing with the IGN instance though is that the strap broke much differently to what this guy is claiming, and the second link is hard to believe since he apparantly broke two things in two different locations and cut himself all with the swing of one Wiimote.
I think people are taking advantage of a small truth and making it seems worse than it actually it. It's like someone saying that you could hurt people with the PSP's UMD launcher.
I've heard of a number of stories of people's Wiimotes coming out of their hand because they didn't use the strap, but the only real confirmation of strap breakage is from IGN.
Oh, my DS strap is still alive btw, haven't managed to break it yet.
