I've been playing a lot of StarFox lately... StarFox Command and heading back into StarFox Assault... I really need to play StarFox 64 again... gonna have to wait for Wii Virtual Console to download it lol... but anywayz... the next StarFox game!
We all know StarFox has had quite the rough ride over the years, so what do you want to see in StarFox Wii that would make it better than StarFox 64? XD Yes, that's a tough thing to do... but it's not impossible.
I have a list of requirements...
Well these are the ones I can think of right now... I'll think up some more later. Tell us what you think would make for a good Star Fox Wii game.
We all know StarFox has had quite the rough ride over the years, so what do you want to see in StarFox Wii that would make it better than StarFox 64? XD Yes, that's a tough thing to do... but it's not impossible.
I have a list of requirements...
- Traditional rail missions - We all love them, it's what everyone expects from StarFox. It's something that Command lacked a lot of and it's what we were all begging to do in Adventures. And of course Assault would've been a much better game if it had more of these missions. I also want to see the Landmaster used in another rail mission or two. The Landmaster's debut in StarFox 64 was pretty fun as a rail mission.
- Mix things up - Remember in StarFox 64, on the first mission you started off on rails but then went into All-Range mode? Then in Assault you could get in and out of your Arwing and Landmaster at will? And yes this does require you to go on foot, but to be honest it wasn't THAT bad in Assault, it's just that I prefer it not to be the main focus of StarFox. I only want to be on foot when I want to move from one vehicle to another or do some minor mission objective that doesn't take long where most of the work is done with the Arwing or Landmaster. Anywayz, mixing levels up so they are more than just a single rail level or a single free range level is a nice thing to have, makes things more interesting.
- Playable characters - Command let you play as Falco as well as Wolf! Need I say more?
- Choose your destiny - Loved this about Command, it took the path feature and gave it more detail. But I'd like it to be a mix of how well you do in a mission as well as what you do in a mission and what decision you make between missions to affect which paths you take.
- Plotting your course - I'm glad someone thought to bring back this lost feature from StarFox 2 and put it into Command. It makes you plan ahead in a away, makes you use your brain, even though it's not THAT hard lol. But I do like it, otherwise it's just level after level of seemingly mindless shooting.
- Arwings and other fighters - I really loved the design used in Assault and the Arwing II in Command looks pretty damn good too. I also like the fact that Command let you fly other crafts. Even better would be allowing a player to choose the fighter they wish to use depending on which character they choose. For example: If you choose Fox, he can fly the Arwing, Arwing refit or Arwing II. If you choose Falco he can fly an Arwing II, Sky Claw or something else...
- Landmaster Tank - Arwings rock, but so does the Landmaster. And I love the design that was created for Assault and the way Assault used it in many of the levels, very fun to use, both on rails and in free range modes.
- Wing damage and wing repair - Come on, it just made things more interesting in StarFox 64.
- Orchestrated soundtrack - One thing I loved about Assault was that soundtrack. A real orchestrated soundtrack, and it sounded damn good! Some games sound better with synthesized music, but StarFox sounds better with something a little more movie-like.
- Cutscenes - Another thing I loved about Assault were the cutscenes, a lot of them were very well done. Loved the intro and the scene when Peppy and ROB64 crash Great Fox into the Aparoid barrier in a last ditch effort to get Fox and the team through.
- Voice acting - Keep it cheesy, seriously lol. StarFox isn't the kind of game where you want to have it too serious, it just won't seem right at all. Besides, the cheesiness is what it's all about isn't it? Personally, I expect it from StarFox. Not the kind of cheesiness you got from Adventures though, I'm talking the kind from Assault. It had good voice acting, but it walked a fine line by having serious dialog with a cheesy cliche ring to it that just worked. But if you don't like that, then the StarFox 64 option of turning the voice acting into Lylatian would work well too lol XD
Well these are the ones I can think of right now... I'll think up some more later. Tell us what you think would make for a good Star Fox Wii game.
