Yeah heard about this a long time ago on animeondvd... I'm reluctant seeing as I'm used to animes being short and the long ones being something like Dragonball Z...

Well I'm sure we can expect better than Dragonball Z XP But this series has been so good so far so I hope they don't ruin it.
Well of course, I just don't want the series to be squeezed completely dry where you get to the point where you're bored with it. The longer a series goes, the bigger the chance it loses its impact.

Yeah lets just hope the dont ruin it, and lets help its just as good as the other 2
2nd GIG had quite a few shortcomings and a third season... man, I don't know. I haven't seen all of 2nd GIG yet though (want to legally purchase the first season first, rewatch, then buy 2nd GIG and watch that to the end), so it might have become better toward the end. If it stayed the way it began, it will never reach the same quality as the first season in my eyes and a third season might just put a bottom line to that evolution.
The Laughing Man is just too hard to beat.

Cant we just say United Imperial America(show refrence) nuked japan to dust and got it over with? I can stand a sequal, even a trilogy if it's good, which GITS is, but seriously people, it's not THAT good. We've had two movies, and two series, I think that's plenty.
On a personal, and slightly nationalistic note, I am dissapointed in the whole "Imperial America" thing. I get tired of the people who actually espose it in my own country, and I'm sick of the dimwits who believe the BS the afore mentioned groups say. If an American made a show where America had become a great place of peace and properity, and another, non-western nation was evil, it would be instantly dismissed as patriotic garbage. But the rest of the world can tout how evil the US is and it's loved and praised.
China can have the "Econmic Power" the "World Power" and "Superpower" status' if they want them. If this is the kinda lame flak we get for it, I'll be glad to get rid of the title. And for once I can sit back, and laugh at somebody else, without getting a politically correct rod shoved up my ass.

I think Rebel's complaining about the same thing that I felt watching last night's GITS:SAC episode. They had a long dissertation on the formation of "Imperial America", with some very unflattering reflections of the current administration (IMHO).
Part of me actually found it kinda funny but at the same time, it does get old hearing people bash the "good 'ol USofA" because of a couple of not so good political decisions. And as much as I agree with the idea that the invasion of Iraq was more of an imperialistic move than a push for democracy around the world, I don't see this as being a long term issue for the US. People are just starting to see what I knew back in 2003... and that's the Iraq people weren't as much held down by Saddam as they were by themselves. They weren't ready to lead themselves then, and the are learning it the hard and slow way now. I'm definitely ready for 2008 now that it seems more of my dimwitted fellow Americans have had their eyes opened up (based on the latest poll results anyway).

Dammit, I fell asleep before the show even came on... Oh well, I guess I can catch it online, sometimes adultswim.com shows reruns of anime on friday nights...
Oh yeah, I see that kinda debate going on in LF over Revenge of the Sith, whether Lucas is taking a jab at the Bush administration or not... of course anyone with sense knows that the message is anti-war not anti-Bush.
...Which episode is this btw? Is it in the first series or second?

Analog pretty much summed it up. The show, much like my post, went on a little tirade about how imperial America has become. I heard once before 2nd Gig came to the US that "there's quite a bit of anit-US sentiment in it, so some Americans may not like it." And it's a little sad that people act like it's some kind of sin when Americans get upset when America is slammed. Regardless of country, I wouldn't be very happy to hear about my country getting dissed all the time. However, I dont want to totally derail this topic...so I'll take it somewhere else.

You could see it as anti-US sentiment or you could see it as a warning to all nations that if you take a certain path you will become corrupted. After all Japan in SAC isn't all lollipops and sunshine. The Japanese often portray their own country as being corrupted and has lost its soul in animes which depict the future.

Maybe, but 2nd Gig is real big on the convoluded. I think I'll leave it there till ya see the ep. That way you can see for yourself. ^_^

It says on the main page of http://www.productionig.com/ "100% Brand New Original Full Length Feature", so it may be the first movie of the Stand Alone Complex leg (if you don't count the mash-up movies)

New information from ANN, it's definately a movie.
Quote:Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society, a full length movie based on Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is currently planned for completion in the summer of 2006.
The production announcement does not specifically state release format, or date. The movie is being produced in Hi-Vision, a format used by Japanese broadcast networks to support wide-screen televisions. The same production team, including main staff, will be carried over from the TV series. The budget, while not specified, is said to be higher in order to achieve a cinematic level of production.
The 100-minute (tentative running time) movie takes place in 2034, two years after the refugee riot incident. A significantly larger Section 9, with over 20 new officers, investigates terrorist actions related to a wizard-like hacker ?Kugutsu Mawashi.?
(Kugutsu Mawashi translated into English is roughly "Puppet Master." Kugutsu Mawashi is not the same as the "Puppet Master" from the first Ghost in the Shell Movie. In Japanese, the "Puppet Master" from the first movie was called "Ningyo Tsukai" which can also translated into "Puppet Master.")
The production committee will comprise Production I.G., along with Bandai Visual, Bandai Entertainment, Dentsu Corporation, Nihon TV Broadcasting (NTV), Manga Entertainment, Tokuma Publishing, and Victor Entertainment.
Even though they say it's not the same Puppet Master, I think it'll tie into that somehow. (and yes, I remember SAC is a seperate timeline)
Either way they're still mlking GITS for all its worth lol But a movie is better than a third series, let's see how it works out.

An SAC movie? Now THAT sounds much more interesting.
Indeed, I would like that much more than a really long series
Found this short video]video containing a small clip of the film a few mins in.

I love GitS. So sad the Tachikoma are gone though.. T_T the only thing I did not like about 2nd Gig was that Kusanagi was a bit too... girly.... not really someone trained military men would follow entirely.
~ You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard. ~
I heard about the 3rd gig from a mate who lives in Japan... He said there have been some complaints about it 'cos it harks back to Motokos roots in the books by putting in some lesbian scenes...
What do you expect? They'll squeeze as much cash as they can from GitS through Stand Alone Complex.
A lesbian scene or two is gonna make any self respecting pervert want this... I know I will.

Oh definitly...
It could do with more panty shots like the original mangas had... *drool*

Man machine interface was definitely a "guys comic." Sometimes it disturbs me how sexually open Motoko can be. 2nd gig has a scene where a kid asks if a person can still have sex in a cyber body, and she replies: "Care to find out?" I suppose that, without the fear of disease or anything I'd have sex with just about anything that moved. *Sighs* Oh well, that's what the future is for.

I didn't like Man Machine Interface, It was just motoko around a bunch of idon'tknowwhatthefucktheywere cutelooking androids, i couldn't get most of the plot and the excess of pantyshots and deformed boobs did bother me, it's nice and all, but is not what I'm looking for when I read/watch something from GITS universe.
Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
much as I'm a typical guy who loves sexy shots of Motoko, I agree with Mav, thats not what I'm wanting when I'm watching GitS or GitS related stuff.
but yes, I imagine the sexdroid was the earliest invention in cybernetic bodies. I mean, theyve got those Real Dolls, just cross one with the Asimo and ta-da, a Fembot!

I guess I wasn't the only person just a little disturbed by that request from Motoko either...

I mean, despite my incredibly soft and down to earth demeanor *laughs to self* I was a little surprised. I see Motoko as a smart modern woman, I mean, I'm no feminist or anything, but it kind of dissapointed me.
Ever thought that Motoko just has a sense of humour people may or may not be aware of? XD
You've read it! You can't unread it!
just like your sense of humour Lynk? *points av* XP
Military Intelligence are two contradictory words
You know, I hadn't thought about that. When I watched it again I wasn't half asleep, and I kinda gathered that it tinged at a joke. Somehow I can't see Motoko as anything other then the stonefaced "Major." It's not like you can take the series, shit it away and then reinvent the franchise into a bunch of whiney highschool kids whose only real purpose is to run around nearly screaming ANGST at the top of their lungs while masturbating until ejaculation onto their half naked unconscious classmates who inturn say nothing until the baby batter maker is near insanity... can you?
