I enjoyed reading this so much that I had to share the link with you guys XD
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Woah nice i read it all XP
Interesting idea from Suda maybe XP
Im not a real big gamer but i might get the game if i got a Wii though XD
It has otaku/internet culture things in it too dosnt it? XP
This is exactly what I expected from Suda51 in the first place. Killer7 is brilliant and although he said that No More Heroes wouldn't be as deep as Killer7, I knew he wouldn't just make a purely shallow game.
And yeah lotsa otaku/gamer/net culture stuff... MOE~!
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Isnt there a neko game in it? XD
XD yeah, Travis has a cat you can play with.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
That article was great, Lynk, thanks for posting it. I had a great time playing No More Heroes and I found a lot more depth in it than I had expected, though it took me until playing on Bitter to really appreciate the control scheme.
I also liked Yahtzee's video review of No More Heroes, which is snarky but entirely accurate. I ended up loving the game, but I don't think I could recommend it to casual gamers. It's a gamers' game. Too bad most hardcore gamers will miss it because it's on the wrong platform =\
i actually really enjoyed playing with the cat, haha
Some of those "hardcore gamers" might not like it because of its different style anyway maybe =P
That's probably true, too. The game definitely benefits from multiple playthroughs, but I can easily see getting bored early, losing interest and not coming back to it.
@ spinkle: Okay... firstly... you are gonna explain yourself when you say "WRONG PLATFORM" *points*
The way I see it, Wii is a perfect fit for No More Heroes. If it was released on the 360 or PS3 it would've been pushed back into the shadows because those consoles already have a lot of so-called "hardcore" games. It would never have gotten noticed and it wouldn't have sold as well as it has on Wii... which it has. The funny thing is that this is Suda51's most successful game so far.. Hmm, I probably should point out that all of his games don't sell very well at all, and I mean they really DON'T sell. The reason for this is because they look "bad" and they're too far out for a regular "hardcore" audience to understand or accept. Please refer to one of my later posts in the "Real game VS NOT real game" thread for more information on this issue.
I honestly think it wouldn't have done well on the 360 or PS3 because it wouldn't have stood out among the crowd... I know that it certainly wouldn't have played well either and you know as well as I do that if the gameplay got boring in this game, it wouldn't have gotten you to the very interesting plot points which are the core of the game.
And Chim is a smart cookie... or he either remembered me saying something about it in the past... because as he said and I mentioned it in this post, Suda51's games really don't do very well because they're so unique in their styles. The so-called "hardcore" gamers put too many restrictions as to what a good game is for them to try NMH. The folks who buy Suda51s games are the people who know they really want something different which is apart from the norm. It's a very niche market which exists outside of the realm of hardcore gamers.
The bottom line is that Wii is NOT a casual only system. If you honestly think that *slaps you* stop thinking that.
Oh, and did you get the REAL ending? XD
Also, Suda51 has expressed interest in making more games featuring Travis Touchdown... fucking can't wait. But that'll have to wait, cause right now Suda51 is working on Fatal Frame 4 for Wii... a game which Nintendo is publishing... yes, another hardcore game on a system that's supposedly NOT hardcore *points*
You've read it! You can't unread it!
i think nintendo is going to get some awsome games this year, and i think that most of them would be better than some PS3 and 360 games.
I don't agree... at least not completely. This is traditionally the time in a Nintendo consoles life cycle where it's quiet... too quiet. They've already released all of the big titles and what they have yet to be released looks like it'll be coming by late 2008, early 2009.
Recently they've said that Disaster: Day of Crisis will be released in June or July in Japan... *thinks* can't remember which of those two months it is, but whatever. They obviously have a lot of titles being developed at the moment since they've shifted all of their effort into Wii development and their many studios are hard at work as we speak.
But, like I said, it takes time for games to be released and you won't be seeing many stand out titles in the coming months coming from Nintendo... so what does this mean? It's a good time for third party developers to get their games released in this time period and enjoy not having to compete with Nintendo on their top titles.... they'll still have to compete with existing titles but what can ya do.
Last year belonged to the 360 since it's been established for a lot longer than the Wii and PS3, but this year looks like it's going to the 360 and/or PS3... dunno which, since they all have some pretty big titles which are out and will be coming out in 2008.
This doesn't take anything away from Nintendo though since Wii Fit is about to launch in the US and Australia which will capture a market that no one else can reach at the moment. Also, Nintendo is about to launch WiiWare in the US, Europe and Australia and there are some very interesting games coming out for that... I'll give you an example: Animales de la Muerte. There are other games coming to WiiWare which are pretty damn interesting too, here's a list of WiiWare games: http://www.vc-reviews.com/wiiware
Right now GTA4 is leading the charge for the 360 and PS3, but MGS4 is also on the way as well as a few other games I'm forgetting the names of right now...
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Lynk, I meant "wrong platform" in the context of the current hardcore gaming view of the Wii...not my current view of it. You're right, this game can't exist on any other platform. It really disappoints me that so many people don't take the Wii seriously when it's already proven its ability to perform and that developers just need to be able to take advantage of its abilities to make games that approach legendary even with the machine's "graphical limitations." (I have to of course refer to a similar situation with something called a "GCN," I believe and little-known franchise for both machines called something like "Metroid")
My only real complaint about it as a hardware platform is the long load times (which, let me be honest, came close to killing No More Heroes for me at the start)
I got to the real ending; haven't finished that part yet, since I started playing on bitter to work on my fighting chops...and I never finished on Sweet, because I started playing on Mild to work on my fighting chops, haha XD
Hmm i dont think ive heard Lynk complain about loading times on NMH, i thought loading things were something he realy disliked maybe
@ spinkle: Don't mind me, I made that sound more aggressive than I actually felt cause I'm trying to get people into more discussions in C3F... just trying to liven up this place.
Just to let you know, No More Heroes started out as a 360 game... be glad it didn't turn out that way... otherwise you would never have got to listen to Sylvia talk to you on your cell phone...erm... Wiimote. (For those who don't know: There's a speaker on the Wiimote. In No More Heroes there are parts in the game where they make you hold it up to your ear as if it was a cell/mobile phone.)
And yeah, I agree that the GCN had a lot of good looking games... but then the GCN was the most efficient machine in the last generation. The Xbox used raw power but the GCN used pure efficiency to achieve some damn good results.
There are many Xbox fans who claim that "Resident Evil 4 was the only GameCube game to come close to the level of graphical quality found on the Xbox"... that's not true at all. A LOT of GCN games looked a hellova lot better than a lot of Xbox games. For example, one such game which I think surpasses pretty much every other game of the last generation is The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker... but no one would agree with that assessment because TWW is cell shaded and not realistic...
@ spinkle + chim: The Japan/Europe/Australian version of No More Heroes is a lot better with loading times and frame rate issues than the US version is... ironically, I think it may have something to do with the blood effects and some other small changes which made the game more inefficient for the US version. The load times are actually pretty quick, at least they were for me, it was only a simple matter of watching the funky phase in and out animations and the next part was already loaded and ready to go.
Oh and just in case anyone is wondering the differences between the US version and the Japan/Europe/Australian versions are...
1. Japan, Europe and Australia got the original cover art while the US got... well... see for yourself.
Japan, Europe and Australia cover on the left. US cover on the right.
We get the boob grabbin' cover... you get the generic art one.
2. Japan, Europe and Australia got the Heavenly Star music video which you could watch on the TV in Travis's apartment. Unfortunately for you, Ubisoft never licensed it for the US and the video was replaced with the NMH trailer. The only time you can hear the song is when you go to see Dr. Naomi.
3. The US version gets the blood, decapitations, and severed body parts which were all a part of the original version of the game while Japan, Europe and Australia don't. The reason for this is simple. In Japan the game is censored, much like a lot of other violent videogames in Japan such as Resident Evil 4. The reason it carried over to Europe and Australia is because the distribution was handled by Rising Star Games which happens to be owned by Marvelous Interactive which published the game in Japan. The version given to Rising Star Games was the censored version and not the full version which Ubisoft was able to obtain. Goichi Suda said that the US version is the version which is closest to his original vision of the game.
4. Load times and frame rate issues.... already mentioned this part
Other than that, it's the same game.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Just finished reading it.
Quote:Much like Travis, our quest is often simply to be number one and we go through not really questioning the deaths of literally hundreds of people at our hands.
Quote:But being number one has kind of lost it’s shine after becoming bathed in the rivers of blood the game has spilled out.
I think this quoted phrases also applies to others not only to gamers. Literally it does not apply to non-gamers but if you think more deeply and relate it to others reality it can also be applied to them. I think this is the same as saying "Ill do anything for my dreams" or "Ill do everything to pass this subject". But in the end you'll be asking "is this alright" or "was it worth it?" and maybe "What's the point?"
Well that's what i think.
You're right, that's part of what NMH was trying to convey... but you should play NMH for yourself so you can see what else it has... trust me, there's a lot more to it.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
Lynk ill be glad to play it but, Tacx= no game console.

The last part isn't entirely accurate...the song also plays in the boutique Area 51 and Beef Head Video...in fact I ended up liking the song so much after hearing it over and over again in NMH that I looked up the video our version of the game didn't get to have and became completely addicted to it, haha =) and for some strange reason I want to go clothes shopping everytime I hear it now
I would have liked to be able to watch the video on Travis' TV, but I did enjoy seeing the trailer since I'd never watched it before. It would have been awesome to be able to actually watch the wrestling videos, though, rather than just suddenly LEARNING A NEW WRESTLING MOVE. On that note, why do so few reviews/discussions of the game fail to mention the wrestling? I loved that aspect of the game and I thought it was implemented very well, especially in the context of giving Travis some measure of backstory without having to do more than refer to it throughout the game (as opposed to having it be a cutscene, etc)
I had heard the game was originally forecast for the 360, but I'm really glad it ended up becoming a Wii franchise instead...and not simply because I'm anti-Microsoft and still have yet to get a 360. Again, the wrestling moves were a hell of a lot of fun for me and they would be reduced to button mashing on any other console with any other set of controls. I did also enjoy "talking" to Sylvia on the Wiimote, I just didn't realize she was talking out of it until the second boss fight because I had the wiimote volume turned down too far to hear it, haha.
We all must also remember that Travis Touchdown is such a badass that he is capable of wearing a pink anime jacket and white pants with embroidered pink hearts and making it look *even more badass*. Not an easy feat. XD
Yahtzee's conclusion from the link I posted above ("For all its faults, *get it anyway,* because chances are you will never play anything like it") is the best summary of the game that can be offered. For me, that's a disappointing statement, because goddamn do I want more. So here's the big question: Now that we're a generation beyond it, is Killer 7 worth the time?

Anywayz, the music video is worth it. I used to watch it almost every time I had free time in Travis's apartment XD lol. Plus I'd also play Pure White Giant Glastonbury quite a lot. XD I love how they just made an entire stage into a oldskool scrolling shooter, BRILLIANT! lol. Oh, oh, oh, and guess what, there's rumour that they may make a REAL anime of Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly,,, according to Suda51, if enough people express interest, it could happen. Man, I hope it does happy XD It'd be so awesome if it did.

Oh yeah, the wrestling moves XD And the whole wrestling thing in general. Suda51 is actually a huge Lucha libre fan, he LOVES his wrestling... I think there's even a pic of him on the net wearing a Lucha libre mask lol. The way they implemented the whole combat element to the gameplay was done well. They used the features of the Wiimote but didn't overdo it as some games end up doing. Leaving it to perform finishing moves and wrestling moves was a very good idea and other developers can learn from this... in fact GAMERS can learn from this since they seem to expect 1:1 sword movements just cause they hear the words "motion control"... *sighs* I liked how some of the assassination jobs had you doing wrestling moves only XD That was pretty fun.

Oh noes XD I have the speaker on my Wiimote turned up to full cause I have a surround sound system and I put that up pretty loud in the first place. Also, for some reason, whenever Sylvia would call, I would instinctively press the 1 button for some reason before putting the phone...Wiimote... to my ear. You didn't need to but for some reason that's what I did XD There is a bit in the options menu where you can route all Wiimote speaker functions in with the rest of the sound coming from the regular speakers, but that's no fun... oh speaking of which, I love how this game starts as soon as you get pass the logos at the start.
Quote:We all must also remember that Travis Touchdown is such a badass that he is capable of wearing a pink anime jacket and white pants with embroidered pink hearts and making it look *even more badass*. Not an easy feat. XD
Yeah... thank this guy for that Also, here's some interesting info for you: Goichi Suda designs T-Shirts... at least he used to as a profession... he also used to be an undertaker... you know, the kind that work at funeral parlours XD lol.
Quote:Yahtzee's conclusion from the link I posted above ("For all its faults, *get it anyway,* because chances are you will never play anything like it") is the best summary of the game that can be offered. For me, that's a disappointing statement, because goddamn do I want more. So here's the big question: Now that we're a generation beyond it, is Killer 7 worth the time?
Yes, yes it is. But Killer7 is of a different breed than No More Heroes... it's a lot more about the socio-political relationship between the US and Japan and isn't as friendly as a videogame as NMH is. It has A LOT of great and unique things in it though and if you want a kind of videogame that you have never played before, Killer7 is definately one of them. More info about Killer7: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_7
Also, you should try to pick up a game called Contact for the DS which is another one of Suda51's games... and there's a remake of a PS2 game being released on DS in the future called Flower, Sun and Rain which is also quite unique.
You've read it! You can't unread it!
I actually just started Contact a few days ago, I'm having a lot of fun with it. It was kind of hard to find, which surprised me as I had seen it around new just a few months ago. I like levelling skills through use rather than experience points, and it's got a quirky narrative.
I would *love* to see Pure White Lover Bizarre Jelly come to life. I just hope they retain BLUEBERRY CHEESE DANISH, CRANBERRY CHOCOLATE SUNDAE and STRAWBERRY ON THE SHORT CAKE, lol. Pure White Giant Glastonbury was an excellent touch and very fun for what it is, not to mention it was a very nice touch to break the monotony of the ranking fight circuit.

i did that too, it felt natural after a couple of fights.

i played TWW, i thought it was good, even for a cell shaded type game
@ spinkle: Which ranked match is your favourite? I personally like Shinobu... not only did you get some damn good music to go along with it, but she's probably the hardest boss in the game. Bad Girl was also VERY interesting XD The first time she dropped to the ground and started crying, I was like "sweet" and tried to unleash all hell onto her before she got back up... BIG mistake, she grabbed me and did some super combo which killed me. I retried her and this time when she'd fake cry I'd stay away from her until she stops and she'd spit out "fuck!" and get back up XD lol. At least Bad Girls super combo is easier to avoid than Shinobu's is though. It was also fun hitting the gimps back at her, Legend of Zelda style lol. The ranked match for Letz Shake is also really funny XD
Oh, and you know that part at the end which was sped up? Here's the slowed down version XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZhuMHw4aPg You don't unlock this in the game or anything, someone actually did slow this down themselves.

I agree that she's the hardest. I got stuck on her my first runthrough on Mild and it forced me to drop down to Sweet...then when I played her on Sweet I beat her without getting hit once, it was seriously the most elegant boss fight I've ever had. That might have been the moment I fell in love with the game, actually. In a way, she is both my favorite and least favorite fight.

oh man, she pissed me off so badly when I first fought her because of that, haha. FUCK YEAH, CRY, I'MA KILL YOUR ASS! Oh wait, I'm apparently dead.
Lynk Former Wrote:At least Bad Girls super combo is easier to avoid than Shinobu's is though. It was also fun hitting the gimps back at her, Legend of Zelda style lol.
Her attacks were remarkably easy to avoid, but it was also a pain in the ass to get her to put her guard up for an easy stun. Definitely a fight that requires patience. I did love the LoZ stuff, I have to think that it's a shout-out to the series, haha. It sure was a pain to hit the gimps back twice though...the timing was really tight on that, with no room for error.
Lynk Former Wrote:The ranked match for Letz Shake is also really funny XD
That was the fight I'd been waiting for through the whole game, haha, I knew there would be at least one huge shark jump coming.
Speed Buster was fun if a bit of a letdown...and I don't think I'd've been able to do it without the Show Enemies on Mini-Map powerup. Harvey is just a fucking joke, though it's kind of a fun fight (real annoying on Bitter, but fun overall). Holly Summers is kind of an obnoxious fight--I hated having to wave the wiimote or nunchuk fast to get out of the pit traps, it killed my wrists (same thing with Harvey and being trapped in the crates)--although the only level where she caused me any difficulty was Bitter. Excellent end-scene for that fight, though.
I think I like fighting Jeane and Henry the most, though, since both of them require some measure of skill, patience and coordination, which (at least for me) makes them more gratifying to beat.
OH! and I absolutely *love* Travis' internal monologue during the initial fight with Death Metal, going from euphoria and overconfidence to absolute doubt...a brilliant addition to an otherwise routine scene, and one of many game-making moments.

I watched that a couple days ago, right after I beat the game on Mild, and I lmao'd, just because of Travis' reactions to the story having a context. It's funny as hell to see him facepalming while she's blurting out all this seemingly random crap at 10x speed XD but it was even funnier to know what she was saying and watch him at the same time. The best part of the story is the fact that it basically starts with "You know that manga Miyuki?" XD
@ kin: "even for a cell shaded type game"?[/QUOTE]
FWIW, I thought WW was a superb game, and graphically it defined (or defines) a new aspect of the franchise--Phantom Hourglass is one of my absolute favorite in the series, and much of the reason why is the familiarity of the graphics. IMO, it demonstrates both the ability of the DS and the appropriateness and integrity of that artistic style to the franchise, and as a result anyone who downplays WW because of the graphics can get bent =)
Frankly, though I know a lot of people weren't pleased with it, I thought Twilight Princess was an absolutely tremendous GCN game and demonstrated the graphic capabilities of that machine in the same way the Metroid Prime series did. (I didn't find the Wii version to be as much fun, but that may have a lot to do with my inability to navigate the inverted maps and the slow response times on the sword swinging, plus on Wii it looks like...well, a GCN port. Which is fine, we all know I love the GCN and would snuggle with it if it wasn't so boxy, but at the same time I wanted it to look at least a little better. I probably need a better TV)
And now, with all that said, I'm gonna go beat Henry's ass on Bitter =D
spinkle Wrote:I agree that she's the hardest. I think it took me 4 goes before I finally defeated her, and I only did it BARELY... I got tot he point where my health was dangerously low and one more hit would be the end of me... when that happens, something just clicks inside my head and I end up REALLY going for it and go into a super concentration mode. I think her health was down to a quarter, so I still had a long way to go... somehow, I manage to defeat her without taking another hit... I let out one hellova sigh of relief afterwards.
Quote:oh man, she pissed me off so badly when I first fought her because of that, haha. FUCK YEAH, CRY, I'MA KILL YOUR ASS! Oh wait, I'm apparently dead.
XD yeah pretty much, fuck her super combo is insane when she does catch you though. It also reminds me of the HUGE CHEAP TRICK that Destroy Man plays on Travis at the very start of the match. XD Man he's such a cheap bastard LOL.

I found a lot of the times during ranked assassin matches, I had to try to stop myself from laughing at how perfectly ridiculous it all was. It's great when she lights her baseball bat on fire as well... it's like just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier...

Yeah, it took me a couple of goes to realise that you could actually bust through the doors to find cover... when I finally realised I was like "fucking hell!" I remember screwing up once cause one of the guys inside the building managed to push me back outside and into the line of fire... but I managed to finish it anywayz, but I didn't have much health left... in fact, I'm pretty sure I had 1 or 2 pixels worth of health left by the time I chopped down the telephone pole.
As for Holly Summers, the fight with her was obnoxious... but I regretted killing her... it was the one fight where I felt like I didn't want to kill her... which is kind of what they wanted you to feel in the first place XD

Another really good part of that scene are who the people who voiced Dark Star and Jeanne are... Steve Blum and Kari Wahlgren
Steve Blum
Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop
Makoto Shishio in Rurouni Kenshin
The Laughing Man in Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex
Vincent Alzey in Last Exile
Kari Wahlgren
Lavie Head in Last Exile
Fuu in Samurai Champloo
Haruhara Haruko in FLCL
as Miina Miyafuji Please Twins!

Ironically, since I played the Wii version first and then the GCN version (I own both), I found the GCN version to be confusing cause I kept going the wrong way because of the mirrored... or lack of mirrored world rather. Also... slow response times from the sword swings? Are you mad? The sword swings were perfect, even if they were just waggles. I felt the combat system for TPWii was pretty well done, it also allowed you to do some damn kickass things with the spin attack and aiming with the bow and claw shots. The only other game that did it better in terms of direct ports with Wiimote integration was Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. Also, technically the Wii version did have improved visuals because it's able to display in 480p widescreen while keeping everything nice and smooth and looking just the way it should. The GCN version on the other hand doesn't even run on full resolution... and it feels so cramped x.x soooooooooooo cramped!! I CAN'T BREATHE!! XD lol sorry.
I happened to play Twilight Princess Wii on a CRT EDTV on 480p widescreen... with Dolby Pro-Logic II surround sound... as I do with all my other Wii games lol... so I'm pretty much covered there. Everything looks bloody awesome to me on my TV

Excellent *in Irish accent* Give 'im a thumpin' from me while ya at it!

I think her health was down to a quarter, so I still had a long way to go... somehow, I manage to defeat her without taking another hit... I let out one hellova sigh of relief afterwards.
I know *exactly* what you mean, it happens with me as well. If only I could play as well at the beginning of the fight as I do when I'm about to get killed, lol XD
Problematically, for a lot of the fights, you need to finish with a standard beam katana blow...which means you can't kill them with a wrestling move or a jump attack...and even if you have them down to what looks like literally 0 health, you still have to bang on them for a while to finish the fight. I lost a lot of times because I couldn't seal the deal and then got hit with the high-powered attacks (Jeane's jump down, Bad Girl's power swing, Holly's missiles, Destroyman's Destroy Sucker [and on a side note, what a bitch move that attack is!], and especially Shinobu's...Genkoken?)
Lynk Former Wrote:I found a lot of the times during ranked assassin matches, I had to try to stop myself from laughing at how perfectly ridiculous it all was. It's great when she lights her baseball bat on fire as well... it's like just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier...
Oh, absolutely. I've always hated multi-form boss fights, so it was a nice break from that paradigm to just have cutscenes and laughable additions to the fights that, for the most part, didn't really affect the fights all that much. I especially loved how perturbed Jeane got when you started winning the fight...it was *awesome* and highly rewarding to actually see a boss react to losing.
Lynk Former Wrote:As for Holly Summers, the fight with her was obnoxious... but I regretted killing her... it was the one fight where I felt like I didn't want to kill her... which is kind of what they wanted you to feel in the first place XD
Quite a manipulative game...and I mean that in the best possible way =)

I thought the voice acting was overall tremendous. I've never watched dubbed versions of any of those anime, so I'd never heard Steve Blum or Kari Wahlgren before. I rarely say this, but just given the short amount I heard them do in NMH, I'd actually like to hear their dubs now.
I'm especially impressed with Robin Atkin Downes...I don't think I'll ever forget Travis' voice, or Silvia's (Paula Tiso) for that matter, although I did have trouble at times with her French accent

Yes, thanks for asking! =D

TP was the first Wii game I played besides Wii Sports, and I had trouble getting the necessary amount of sauce on my swings to get the sensor to recognize them. If I played it again now, I would probably have a much higher opinion of the sword mechanics--NMH certainly gave me a lot of practice with exaggerated movements, haha. (another side note: I had hella trouble with the wrestling move in the fight against shinobu since i sit with the nunchuk turned in my hand in my lap because it's the most comfortable position...the gyroscope apparently doesn't like that, so I actually had to practice that move to coordinate my hands)
I gave up on the Wii version around the lakebed temple, which on my GCN runs had been more than a bit frustrating, so I didn't get the opportunity to really explore the controls--bear in mind that I was incredibly excited to use the double clawshot with with the wiimote, so abandoning the game was a huge disappointment for me. Not coincidentally, I also moved onto Metroid Prime 3 at that point, so there was a definite benefit to abandoning a Zelda game I'd already beaten twice...I was also expecting that there would be more of a connection between the Wiimote and the sword mastery attacks, and was kind of disappointed that it remained Press A When Flashing for at least the beginning ones.

I've been meaning to check out RE4, I've heard fantastic things about it. I'm even more excited to try out The Force Unleashed after reading details on its control scheme; it really looks like they've thought of everything and are pushing the Wii's capabilities...I was really afraid it would end up like Tomb Raider, but I don't think that's going to be the case, thankfully.
I've been shopping for a decent TV, as I only have a 36" old-school CRT (by old-school, I mean at least 15 years old) so I haven't been able to truly enjoy the Wii at full power yet. Some games, like Super Mario Galaxy, didn't suffer at all from the lower resolution; others, like NMH (unfortunately) and Tomb Raider were jagged as balls.
Lynk Former Wrote:Excellent *in Irish accent* Give 'im a thumpin' from me while ya at it!
I gave him almost 200 thumpins and barely got his energy down by a quarter. This includes several wrestling throws...I'm not real good at math, but it seems to me I need to hit him well over 500 times to put him to bed XD My arm hurts from all the blade lock breaking, haha.

I understand that people want to hear anime in its original language, but that really doesn't mean that the English (and other language) dubs are bad.
As for the voice acting in No More Heroes... I love how they managed to make, what is an entirely ridiculous script for entirely ridiculous characters, sound... right. Normally, if it was any other game or movie or whatever, you'd laugh at how stupid some of what these characters say, but in NMH, it's done so in such a way where it makes you realise that

I think Sylvia's French accent was added on purpose... and there's a good reason why it sounds so bad XD Somehow I don't think she's really French.

I think I know where you went wrong with your sword swings in TP.
Okay, now let me train you in the ways of the Wiimote...
Basically the idea is to make really short really quick motions... a simple flick of the wrist. Basically the most movement you will get will be around 4cm... er... less than 2inches... Personally, I like to make left and right flicks because I find it easier than doing it up and down. Also, I found that if I time it to match the sword swings Link makes on-screen, I can have better control over when Link stops swinging his sword... in fact, I've gotten so good at it that I'm able to make it look like Link is swinging the sword exactly how I'm moving the Wiimote XD lol. There's really no exaggerated movement required since it's simulating a button press... it's just a flick of the wrist and the sword swings. The response time is spot on too.
But I do agree that the "Press A" flashing on the screen to perform finishing moves wasn't a good way of doing it... actually, I prefer The Wind Waker way where it actually makes the A button in the top corner flash for a moment and makes a "surprise noise" to perform counter attack moves. They could've done the same thing but route the sound through the Wiimote speaker along with a rumble to let the player know that they can perform the finishing move... but to be fair, it really is a direct port of a game that does use buttons in the first place, so if they went overboard with it, it wouldn't have worked out as well.

Are you fucking kidding me? You haven't tried Resident Evil 4? FUCK ME! Okay, you're gonna not buy the next game you think you want, you're gonna go down to the store and you're going to buy Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition and play the hell out of it. NO EXCUSES! YOU'RE DOING THIS! RE4Wii is the single greatest example of how a traditional hardcore game can benefit EXTREMELY WELL from Wiimote controls. I can't wait for RE5, but after playing RE4Wii, I feel that the gameplay will be entirely INFERIOR to that of what was introduced in RE4Wii. Screw TFU, RE4Wii... NOW!

There's no rush... you're not going to find a CRT TV selling in the US anymore, and currently LCD TVs and Plasma's still have a long way to go IMO before they really become worth it... but if you end up getting a 360 or PS3, a HDTV i a must.

I like using the charged up and down attacks.

Yeah spink, definitely get RE4, its probably my favorite game on the Wii.
Finally took Henry down on Bitter...1065 hits! XD Almost lost because of some failed blade lock breaks (my elbow was/is sore) but I pulled it out. I love that in the initial Henry cutscene (Letz Shake) he asks Travis to "dance with [him]" and in the final fight he makes fun of your "swordsmanship" unless you can do surprise dodges around his spinning attack...I don't think he made fun of me once this last time after I learned how to dance so well 0=D
I don't think I've ever felt so rewarded by a boss fight before...I certainly honed my skills and what seemed like a button masher at the start (as NMH is most definitely on Sweet) has some serious elegance and grace to it if you come to learn what you are doing. I'm insanely impressed...less with myself than with the game, if that makes sense. I went from thinking I wasted money owning it (a few short hours in) to having this game be one of my favorites all-time. Truly a wonderful experience. I *really* wish I could recommend it to my more casual-gaming friends but I guess that's the drawback to gamer's games.
Yeah, it feels great to finish a challenging game. I felt the same way after finishing Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. That games throws a lot of seemingly impossible challenges at you. In some cases you're going against something like 100 enemy units when you only have maybe 17 units on your team lol. Some people call them game impossibly hard, but of course, it isn't. I mean, it IS a Tactical RPG... you gotta make it hard to actually use some tactics so you can finish the level... and if you're good enough, finish with all of your units alive XD
And that's just normal mode lol. Hard mode gets even more interesting XD

That sounds like my experience with FFXII: Revenant Wings, haha. It was my first RTS RPG so it was a bit of a mindblower...still haven't gotten up the gumption to go back and finish it yet, either, stuck on the final fight there >_> I can *definitely* understand what people like about the genre, though.
*points* If you can, try find Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for the GameCube and then move onto Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.
...but first buy Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
