Say the Operating System you're using, or the one you prefer or use the most if you're using more than one.

I have been a Microsoft user since the times of the windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 6.22, but a year ago I tried kubuntu and now I'm sticking with the Open Source Goddess, since I can do more cool stuff with it than with Windows. I'm not going to preach about GNU/Linux anyway, I don't recommend it, specially to anime fans that might have trouble getting their anime to play or their 5.1 sound to work (plus you gotta spend some time in learning how to use it, there's no C: drive, no exe files, and you aren't the admin of your computer by default)

actually I'm more curious if everyone already switched from XP to Vista already, I only know two Vista users and is pretty unpopular here in Argentina, so far clients that buy a new computer at my father's job mostly request an XP system and my University isn't even thinking about Vista.

I used to use DOS back in ye olden days... I never did like Windows 3.1, in fact, I hated it and always stuck with DOS... but then my brother installed Windows 95 on the home PC and I was like "what the hell is this?" XD I was so horrified, I wanted DOS back. But I got used to it and from 95 I went to 98 and 98SE and then onto ME and then XP... and I'm still using XP right now.

As for Vista, I'm holding out... XP is fine so far and I don't really see any need to switch unless I really have to or something...

Isn't there like another OS being developed by Microsoft called Windows 7 that's meant to come out in 2010 or something? *looks around* Or am I just making that up?

Im using windows vista, it rocks, i think its better than windows XP so far.

As for the whole deal with Vista, it is always best to wait it out. Windows XP was out for quite awhile before I actually started using it and by then it had proven itself to be decent enough... XD

Started off back in the bad old days of DOS, then Win 3.1, which was entertaining enough for a kid. Win 95 and 98 corrupted me to the Microsoft ways and I upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional as part of a deal. I got a new computer, provided it had Win2kP (on the grounds that it didn't run games) installed. Ha. Ha. Ha. I'm still running Win2k, but want to switch to XP when I get the chance.

No way in hell I'm switching to Vista, at least until the service packs roll out. My experiences with my friends' computers have been frustrating, infuriating, and conducive to high blood pressure (for them. I just laughed.) My friend's quad-core processor can handle Vista pretty well in all its over shiny trashy glory, although it's prone to random crashes and shutdowns without explanation, can only connect to the internet on Wednesday afternoons via dial-up, and occasionally decides to reset his network settings in the middle of LAN gaming. Much lulz had here.

Ironically, I'd have bought myself a new computer by now, but I'm not willing to fork out extra cash for an operating system I'll just have to pay to replace.

Windows Vista, if I didn't purchase a desktop when I moved into my house back in November, I likely would have been using XP with my laptop. I likely never would have upgrade to Vista, I just would have bought another computer that came with Vista. I'll likely stick with Vista until the next OS is out, likely then I feel I need to upgrade my computer at that point.

I have both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux installed but I primarily use XP for gaming reasons. I like Linux better though.

I currently run Win2k on my desktop, as it's nice and stable for what I do with it, and isn't too demanding on the hardware. Unfortunately, more and more software and hardware isn't shipping with support for it, so I'll have to buy an XP copy at some point, or check out Crossover Office or something like that for an Ubuntu install when I am forced to upgrade by failing hardware.

I have a Knoppix CD that I use when Win2k dies and needs to be recovered. Most of the time, there isn't a problem, but I did have one blow up that lost my user profile, and through Knoppix I was able to recover it.

I guess, have you had problems that needed a recovery using Knoppix?

The only thing that really annoyed me was when I was testing Knoppix was that it does a better job of pulling data off a CD or DVD than Windows does. It doesn't do that herky-jerky stop and freeze for a moment thing while it starts to seek for data. I played Mp3s that didn't even hiccup while changing CDs (and this is for an OS which was on a CD and was never installed on my hard drive!)

Well I don't have anything against Mac users, but I regret that Moelman didn't vote for Linux so we could make Geass feel more miserable

I frankly try my best not to bother to read such things like this, it frankly just annoys me. I am not even trying to prove a point. Too many flame war postings that I have seen on C|Net turned me away from such articles. (Besides, I already received the security patch for that some time ago.)

I did how ever point a couple away from buying a Mac in a Best Buy Store and direct them to purchasing to an Apple Store instead. They really felt informed after spoke to them about the further things they could do with a Mac, rather than the Bum of a Commissioned sales person only pointed them out to the table. They actually where goignt o rebuild their entertainment center around the Apple TV and a new iMac.

kin37ik, that video is very old in my pocket book, and I never considered it authoritative, though somewhat sarcastic, on how mac's where when the CEO of Pepsi (Scully) was running things in to the ground before Jobs came back.

Though of security though, I have only had two instances, more likely one, in which my machine was compromised. Once it was a program that I actually heard installing itself in to my machine. Another I think was a virus that I brought home from school, or just a faulty disket.

Please though, I like my mac, could we not bash on them? I know it has the security of roughly a Toaster Oven.

I don't really see anything wrong with Windows. I mean lots of geeks can go on about the finer points and all the technical details, but if it works and it's not breaking down every day... then I don't see the problem. Most people can't tell the difference anyway, and personally, I don't care enough to bitch about Windows XD

1 time I think it was something that installed itself after I happened on a web-page. Lucky for me I listen to my HD spooling up and removed it.

Lucky? Well I proved the viruses for mac exist in the wild in my book. It was more like some random bloat wear that happened to work on a mac.

I still use XP SP1 and i turned off auto updates soon after i reformated i think =P
