Professor Layton and the Curious Village



This game has caught my attention, and it's the first game in a trilogy of games being released by for the DS. Basically, it's a collection of puzzles based around a mystery adventure game type setting.

Well it is an example puzzle from a promotional poster or email or something. Either way, there are lots of different kinds of puzzles in the game, some easier than others, but they're all different kinds of puzzles.

Zack & Wiki Quest for Barbaros' Treasure


This is one of those games you should not pass up if you own a Wii. It's a point and click adventure with a lot of wackiness and style. It's damn fun and I enjoy playing every second of it. Just like Professor Layton, it relies on puzzles, however these puzzles are extremely different. They're environmental based where the entire level becomes one big puzzle you have to figure out to get to the treasure chest. I'll explain more after these links...

Now getting a treasure chest is no simple task, and just because you can do something in the game that seems like a good idea... it doesn't mean it actually is a good idea. There are many ways to die in this game if you're not clever and think ahead.

I'm so hoping Capcom makes sequels cause I can't get enough!

The World Ends With You



Now this is a game which seems pretty damn interesting for a lot of reasons... but I think what got me to notice it is the fact that it's a game by Square Enix... which is something DIFFERENT. The game is published by Square Enix and their Kingdom Hearts team along with a developer called "Jupiter" who develops games primarily for Nintendo handhelds seemed to have put a lot of effort into this game.

It has gotten quite a bit of attention from a lot of places... I think I've even seen deviantArt promoting it with a competition. It's starting to find quite the cult following and so I searched around to try to find out more about it.

The DS has been getting a flood of really good games and it seems that a lot of developers are embracing the DS as their top platform... recently Bandai Namco said that they'd be releasing 34 games on the DS in 2009 compared to the 14 each for the Wii and PSP, 6 titles for the PS3 and 3 each for the 360 and PS2... and of course Square Enix themselves have been putting a lot of effort into making DS games lately... I mean, they're Dragon Quest IX is coming out for it lol.

I have quite a lot of interest in The World Ends With You... I really do want it... I think i'll buy it XD It's been a long time since I bought a DS game, and I really do have A LOT of them to buy cause damn that system has a tonne of great games.

One of my friends is loving WEWY right now, it'll be the next DS game I pick up after I finish with Contact...which, BTW, deserves a moment in the spotlight itself...I'm loving the level-skills-through-use scheme, the gameplay is a lot of fun, and the full-stylus-control is pretty well done (though it does fall short a handful of times). Literally everything you do in the game is some kind of grinding, which is a nice change of pace from fight-monsters-to-gain-xp. Not to mention that most of the art is nicely rendered. I just don't understand why the cover art and booklet illustrations have Terry with black hair since it's not black in the game...I picked it up used for $18USD and it was definitely worth the money. I know I've mentioned the game in other threads but thought it could use a more specific shout-out...
