I have no idea what has happened to this amazing artist since she released her one and only album "21" in 2004. Most you guys wouldn't know who she is since she's an Australian piano artist that was unfortunately overshadowed by the more popular Delta Goodrem.
Listening to her album again reminds me just how outstanding Melissa is, she wrote ALL of the songs on the album by herself and was heavily involved in composing and producing the tracks. Check out her profile here and you can listen to 3 of the songs from the album here.
I first discovered her early one morning on "rage" (a local music video program) where the music video for "21" was playing and was instantly drawn to the song. Upon researching more about her, I discovered she was releasing her album at the time so out of curiosity I listened to all of the tracks from the album when it was released.
The melodies and tunes she comes up with are quite touching. I especially liked the opening song "Dancing Girl" as it sounded quite mysterious, then it was followed up by another two excellent tracks, the promoted single "21" and "Dreaming". I actually felt "Dreaming" showcased catchy piano melodies and Melissa's soothing vocals the best although "Wintry Feeling" is just as good. In fact, I'd say "Wintry Feeling" is my favourite track off the whole album as it's quite a sentimental music piece that fits perfectly for the winter/christmas season. A lot of the songs on the album are quite easy listening too such as "Sunday" and the tracks mentioned above but Melissa also incorporates some upbeat piano pieces with a sexy vibe on "If I Had".
Despite little attention to her music in Australia, it did get some small exposure in the US where one of her song "If He's The One" was featured on some romantic comedy series that had Alicia Silverstone in it. I really do wonder what this artist is up to now as I've heard little from her since 2004, she's a great singer and songwriter and I'd definitely recommend her music to those who like piano produced songs.
